i used a 57 fairlane dash and made custom garnish molding to blend it all together. the dash un bolts from the stock A dash holes . i was alos able to fit the stock clock and heater controls.
I wish i could have found a tri five complete chevy dash or some thing else with more chrome and trim.

Right now,I have an ugly vinyl covered flat dash in my '31 coupe. However,I do have a nice set of black face faria gauges and I have my eye out for a good piece of Cocobola hardwood-it's a black/flame red hardwood of the rosewood species.

I'm thinking 55 Olds I have one to harvest but will need to do a HAMB request for the gauges, will keep it simple for me both cars using the same dash :) but I figure it will rowk well with the Olds motor too.

I've got a 39 Ford setup for my next project. That is if I ever finish all before it.

My buddy's coupe has a 27 chrysler, and another buddy put a cutdown 46-48 Chevy dash with the humps removed and a 58 chevy tail light bezel frenched in to use as a two gauge cluster. All the stock 46-48 chrome is retained, just not installed in this pic(green sedan).

This is pretty close to what you're thinkin. Its a '57 Olds dash with 14" cut out of the center and a whole lot cut off the back. I used the defroster slot trim to fill the gap between the top of the dash and the windshield frame. I used the same ribbed aluminum pieces to fill the openings for the heater controls which I no longer needed. It came from the same donor car as the motor, so I guess the odometer is correct! Another dash that I think would look great in an A is the '58 Pontiac dash with all those big round chrome bezels running through the middle. I had to use a later Olds steering wheel to pull it forward so that I could get my knees behind it. Then I put the '57 steering wheel center back in the middle to keep it all looking right. On top of the dash is a '61 Buick clock that I turned into a tach.

While I search for a better picture from the other angle, here's a picture of the build. You can see that I cut the center out of the top, then I cut horizontally behind the chrome trim in the center, and then came down through the middle of the glove box. I lost the radio space, but after taking out 14" I still have a good size glove box by rejoining the two ends that were left. Because of the wraparound ends I couldn't use the window crank locations, but Ol' Henry Ford was thinkin' of me. The door skins are the same on both doors so they put a circular opening for the window crank on the right and left of each door skin. I just had to drill new screw holes and switch the left regulator to the right and vicy versy.

Scratch what I said about the door skins being symetrical, I just looked at an old picture and I guess I was thinking of some other door I'd seen. Anyway, I reversed the regulators and shortened the door latch linkage rod a few inches to pull it back.

I don't know what it takes to get the dash out because I had two friends that originally bought the car and tore it apart. I just ended up with the good parts. My advice, take a Sawzall just in case and hopefully there's no windshield to get in your way. -Scotty

  21. 57's are dumb....so I used a 58. Haha! Damn Slag Kustom that looks good, I was thinking of using the side garnish as well and moulding it into the doors but it seemed to close to the speedometer gauge trim on the left.
Here's mine its very unfinished. I'll be moving my gauges up into the dash and maybe shortening my steering column later

  22. I have a '55 Stude dash here that I think would work good in an A - it's from one of the coupes and angled back so the gauges would hang flat not much futher out than the stock dash was. The curve at the top seems like it would mate up to the cowl pretty well, too. Here's what they look like -

One neat thing about it is the airplane influenced controls, the headlights, dash lights, fan and defroster are all on three-way up/down toggles at each side of the cluster. The gauges look nice, too, but then I'm partial to the old stuff and not the cookie-cutter 1-800-hotrod gauges a lot of guys use.

I mostly carry this to shows with an inflated price on it to get people's attention, now that I have that A ch***is I'm not worried about selling it - I can just hang onto it and start the pile of parts for that build.

I think this is an edsel, 59 maybe?
the dash panel was the inner tailgate skin of a 63 falcon wagon, and the original A dash rail flipped upside down.
