Anybody know what brand these Torq Thrust type wheels are?

Anybody know exactly what type of wheels these are? I'm trying to find some matching 15" versions and I'm not exactly sure who made these.

They're supposedly not American Racing because I've learned they will say "American Racing" on the back of the wheels if they're the real deal. These have a rough texture to the spokes.

    Maybe U.S. Mags?

Sorry for the crummy images, I took the pictures with my phone.

Was there an ET wheel like that with the darker rough cast centers? I'll have to try and look through my junk, I'm thinking I have some like that and I'll check to see if any for of ID on the back side. Do yours say anything anywhere on the back side? Look closely at the inside of the spokes, some of the ones I've seen have ID or info cast into the backside of the spokes....

Vintage Torq-Thrust are staight spoke. In the mid/early 60s is when they added the "D" "Torq-Thrust-D" for Disk breaks which have curved arms for the calipers.

  5. Look like ETs to me.....here's a set [polished] on my old 49 ford.

So many companies made versions of the Torq-Thrust wheel that they're difficult to positively ID without some more clues. Clean and inspect the back of the wheel for a manufacturer's name or model name/number... look specifically inside each spoke and around the perimeter of the hoop.

Also, you can research (google image) vintage wheel advertisements to get a feel for the hallmarks of each brand... like spoke shape, window size, hub size, machining/reveal profiles, lug type, etc...

    Good luck! Wheels are fun...

If you look closely, they have a little edge machined where the spokes meet the rim. I noticed that the new U.S. Mags they are making also have that little ridge. (They are modernized in other ways)
I haven't seen that ridge on any of the wheels I've found online.

I don't think they're ET's or American Racing. I will inspect them closer for any mfr info, but I didn't see anything.

  10. They look like a Old set of Ansen Mags
    I could be wrong
but its just a guess from the 60' or 70's

    just my 3.5 cents

    I'd say they're AP.
That stood for Appliance Plating I believe. They were made in Japan, and are condsidered one of the better torq thrust copies.

Theyre probably US Mags or Rocket...they were torq thrust copies sold by JC Penneys, Sears..etc..aluminum American Racing torqs thrust mags were always branded...I believe Ansen and Fenton were always branded too...Appliance had recessed lug nut holes which these dont have, they would also have Japan cast somewhere on the back....

I got a set on my OT Biscayne that are dead ringers for those. Never knew what kind they were, but they are stamped "Japan" on the back. No other stampings.

I believe stovebolt55 is correct. U.S. Wheels made them with that sharp edge around the mounting hub. Not that it matters though. When you're searching for 5 spokes everyone calls them Torq Thrusts.

I haven't found "Japan" cast anywhere on them, I looked for that but didn't see it.

Sounds like they may be US Mags, Fentons, or Rocket.

They came on my '56 Chevy and I believe they were on it for several decades.
If I could just find 2 15" wheels to match these 14" fronts I would be a happy man.

  18. The earlier appliance were made in Cal .... later Japan and the later ones say "JAPAN" in caps .... pretty sure you got some appliance ..... I gots 'em on my 59 bisquit.

Do your appliance wheels have that little ridge where the spokes meet the rim?

If you get a chance, would you please take a picture?

    Thanks!

So you've clearly got cast 1-piece aluminum wheels, which helps to eliminate some of the composite steel/aluminum wheels like the Keystones HRP shows above.

I think the key design element (from the front, anyway) is the taper of the hoop between the slightly rounded (but still straight) spokes... the way the window narrows from the face of the wheel toward the rear/mounting surface. They look very similar to these Fenton Hustlers... but I'm still not 100% sure.

I had a set of ET's look up Wheel Centre Co. That had the gold painted spokes and thick flanges. Rod and Custom magazine did an article on the company in about '68-'69. Hope this helps. Indy

The vintage ET 5 spokes I have are uni-lug, and have ET molded right into the face of the wheel above one of the lug holes.

    They are not:

    -Torq Thrust
    -ET
    -Appliance
    -Fenton
    -Ansen

They are most likely U.S. mags, as I have an identical set that I know are U.S. mags.
