I fabbed up a battery box. How ever I am going to need something to hold the battery down. i was thinking of using a strap. My concern is there any strapping material that is resistant to the riggers of direct constant battery exposure? leather? I think a strap of some sort would look a bit cooler than a metal bar.
I can tell you from experience that a ratchet strap will not last long enough to be used for an emergency "quick fix" to get you home from across town. Having the positive terminal on the battery get ground off in the fan was pretty exciting though.
I like to build my box around a tray. Just cut off unwanted portions. Then you won't have to use a strap across the topof the Battery.
If it was my car, it would've just been a lesson learned. Since it was my dads, I have to hear about it for the rest of life so it's hard to forget. A leather strap with a chrome buckle might last longer and it would look pretty cool if you did it right but after that incident I wouldn't trust anything that wasn't designed for a battery. They make marine battery straps. I bet if you looked hard enough, you could find one that looks period correct or replace the buckle and make it look period correct yourself.
