Heading to googuys indy in september, where does everyone recomend that we park, once we get in. Looking for a good view of the cars entering if possible, not asking for much!! Went to columbus in july, 105 in the shade, hoping for a little bit cooler in indy
i parked accross the street from the track at the main entrance for the show cars be prepared there arent as many cars at indy as columbus but still well worth the trip
how is indy now that its at the circle track? i opted for kalamazoo last year, kinda torn between the two this year.
I thought the sound of the Indycars were a great reminder of the significance of the venue. Didn`t go there for the peace & quiet. I can nap at home...
After listening to the Indy cars all day it does get a little old. I liked the show at Raceway park, but I ***ociate more with hot rods and drag cars.
Did any of you do the cruise around the track? Thats the main reason I want to go. Just to say I drove around the track. But i wasnt sure how long and how fast you can go...
I went last year and was one of the early groups on the track. They gave us 1 lap at a very controlled speed, about 70. I heard that later the speeds were faster. It was still pretty cool to drive around that place. I did the track cruise at Charlotte a few years ago and we got 3 laps at a stupid fast pace 100mph+ on the back stretch if you would just lay back a little and then catch up. Good time for sure!
I'm going.......got my room at the Host Hotel about 3 weeks ago...but I may have just been luck to get one this late........Also, I wonder if the restaurant...." Legends" is still open....that place is something to see....it is full of signed helmets from drivers....I wouldn't even dare to guess how many are in there.......I'm supposed to meet up with an old friend that is coming from Ca. with the Andy Brixio group...last I heard somewhere arounf 100 or so cars on a 9 day tour to Indy.........I'm driving my '32 and my son-n-law is supposed to drive my '29 truck.....If all goes like usual, I'll be there by myself.
We usually go, The new venue was OK, it seemed like there were cars stashed every where. Kind of hard to find all of them. The lap around the track is cool. We go for all the other shop parties too. Its still a good event. I too got a little tired of the indy cars buzzing by all day.
I think I am the only guy to ever get his *** chewed at the Speedway for going too slow. It was about 8 years ago they said don't go over 35!? O.K. So my wife, son, and one of his buddys were with me. No problem, we were hard toppin' and had been to the track several times. We were takin' it all in cruisin slow and talking about where we had seen crashes. We were pretty well through, about the end of turn 1 when a track truck comes flying up yelling to keep moving, lets get going. WTF? He must have really got turned on to be the speedway police. He got to run it up to 80 or so just so he could chew my ***. Ah, the memories.........they need a maximum and minimum.
