Who's still running a solid axle 55-59 pickup?

After seeing so many people switch to a Camaro clip or an after market IFS, I decided to keep mine a truck and ordered some mono leafs and a drop axle.

Just curious how many others are still running a solid front axle?

I am, my '55 Chevy pickup is running the original straight axle with disc brakes, mono leaf springs, power steering conversion. hen I got the truck it already had the discs and springs, so I decided to just rebuild what I had and add CPP power steering.

If I could do it over again I'd clip it in a minute - better ride and handling, lower stance, and it woulda been a lot cheaper.

I am, and at stock height and stock steering and brakes too. I'm not much of a hipster.

I'm running a stock front axle. Monoleafs make me nervous too. I used Posies dropped springs in the front. I think it's two leaves. Rides good!

with any luck, the parts should be here in 2 weeks. I'll have a full rolling ch***is soon after. I'm going to mock up the body on the frame as soon as it's rolling and see how low it is before I add the powertrain

Mine still has it and it will stay although 2 leafs will be coming out of the front springs to lower it a smidge.

My 1957 IHC still has the straight axle and leaf springs on it and I plan to keep them. It's going to be a while before it's back on the road but I'd like to keep it as original as possible. The engine will get a few modifications and the interior, not sure about the body.

I had a dropped one in my 31 Chevy 2 dr, really had a good ride after we dialed in the springs a little. I did run disc's up front.

  22. I plan on keeping the solid axle on my '53 F100. I figure if my 7,500 lb. Super Duty presents a respectable ride (4x4), I can make the '53 do the same at half the weight with a little ingenuity.

who's running a dropped solid axle with mono leafs? I'm real curious as to what I should expect for ride and handling. I know it'll ride like a truck but how is it to drive on a daily basis? I'll be running the factory manual steering as well, with a big wheel

Heard the mono leaf setups had a "bouncing issue" but who knows as i don't drive one YET!

Kept the solid axle on my '55 Dodge. Removed 3 springs to lower it a little. Initially reversed the main spring, but I was sitting on the stops. Looked good but had no suspension travel.

I flipped the front axle on my dad's '58 which lowers it about 4 1/2". With the 70 series tires, and Carrera shocks, it drives like a dream.
