Good for you, Ace. I've had my '55 F100 since I found it in 1972. (I had another $100 '55 F100 that became my parts truck!
The one I found was recovered theft, got it for $60. It was STRAIGHT! (San Jose, CA truck with no rust.)
It took awhile to get it running, I had married badly. But I got rid of my parts truck after stripping it of everything usable, and did the same with that lame wife. Gone Jack!

My truck was my shop truck, everyday transportation, tow vehicle, Drag Race support vehicle, (ran it thru the traps in 1980 and turned 106 in 13.40! Street tires and mufflers!) Also served to date my beautiful new girlfriend after dumping my jerk wife!

Still have the gorgeous girlfriend, (trophy wife now) and still have the cool F100. It's been a cool 40 years...

Lesson: No matter what else happens, marriage...divorce...discovery of new talent...
Don't give up your truck. Or your sideburns.

As krooser suggested, get it running nice first, then start your mods. Do a lot of research and make a plan [ in writing helps] and try to stick to it. Theres a lot of good info on here from people who have been there before.
If you decide on a independent for the front you cant go wrong with ElPolacko. [Do a search] Also you can check the Ford Truck Enthusaists Forum for a lot of Ford truck specfic info. Have fun.

i have a 54 f100 and this is exactly what i did. i took out 3 leaves on all 4 corners. i also bought a 3" dropped axle from sids(about $400) and in the back i am taking the front spring mount and moving it up towards the top of the frame. i did not have to screw with the frame at all as far as notching it and it was fairly cheap.

  11. oh. well okay then. it'll be awhile before i do any of this, but it's nice to have the info beforehand.
