Disclaimer: Let me preface this post by saying that my truck may not be for all, but I built the whole thing myself for $4000, it's well built, handles great, is a reliable daily driver, has over 15,000 miles on it, and I love driving it. I painted it flat black when I built it in 2006. I don't have any rust holes in the floor or unsafe parts. No crosses, rats, or spiderwebs. I don't consider it a RR, but some other people do. I just think it's a loud, safe, reliable hot rod! It's not completely traditional, but it's fun. I'm building a 99% Hamb friendly A Sport coupe now if you want to look at that thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=647879 Anyway I got tired of both the standard responses of "I like your RR" and "when are you going to paint it?" So that's what I did this weekend. I took 6 hours and $52 worth of Rustoleum Hunter Green and painted it. Now it's shiny and isn't black. I left my door logos in black and will have the edges of them striped to look like a sign border. The green looks good, Rustoleum Professional lays down nice if you spray it carefully and if I don't like the look I'm not out a ton of cash. Check it out.
For a rattle can paint job it looks pretty good, but I think you need to buy a few more cans and spray the doors. HRP
I don't like it. Now that we have the negative feedback out of the way, it looks fine to me. I may have painted the doors myself but it still looks fine to me. I don't think it looked all that bad before. Maybe a little tired but it definately wouldn't have p***ed for a junk rod.
I'd leave them black. Breaks up all that green and actually kind of goes along with the black wall tires.
Nice and shiny. I agree about the doors and possibly the front wheels or all the wheels a different color.
Thanks for positive comments. I have too much money tied up in the logos on the doors to have them painted over. I am going to have the edges of the black outlined in pinstriping so it will look more like a hand painted sign on the doors. I painted the edges of the doors and rolled the paint into the corners with a radius so it's not like the truck is green with black unpainted doors. It'll look better when done. I also have the tailgate painted green and installed now, it was still drying at the time of the pictures.
Damn, for spray bombs, that looks great! When you put the borders around your door lettering, that should make it pop pretty nice.
It's all fun and green 'til the nozzle burps.................if you're happy and you know it stomp your feet! Nice job.
Did my race car in the same product only I bought a gallon (25bucks home depot) and sprayed it with a gun.........tough stuff.
looks pretty damned good to me. the only paint jobs i'll be able to afford in the foreseeable future will most likely come out of a can so this is just what i like to see
The paint turned out great for the investment, that's for sure. I've seen alot of WAY more expensive jobs turn out basically the same. Trim out those logo's and then turn your attention to the wheel and tire combo. The RR comments will lessen. If it's not a cherry bomb ***sled, it's always gonna be considered a rat to some folks. Good job, keep it up. Oh yeah, I like the Sporty too...
