I have been working a little on a supersecret project that I have owned for quite some time.It is a '59 Vette.... Or should I say it resembles a '59 vette I bought this one peice body a few years back on ebay[made by Oneida gl*** works] NO LONGER in production...... I have it mounted on a shortened GM ch***is now and am looking for a direction to take it..... I definitely do not want to be a...... "VETTE GUY" and wear matching silk jackets with "WRAP YER ***" on em= and cater around a well done blonde roadmap faced -cigarette ****in ,*****......snobbing the likes of us HAMBERS ..... Tell ya what I do have in mind and anytime you dont agree with me speak up or forever hold on to your "peice"! I was thinking there is nothing more boring than restoring something to factory-so I was leaning in the direction of a proposed factory prototype/dream car look...... Here is one I kinda like-does anyone have a pic of the REAR END of this thing????that is what I need to start with PLUS some Input as to what other look to incorporate in the build.I didnt care for the gold one that "sold" for3 mil at Scottsdale a while back- It had a 56 olds bumper inn frt and a different treatment at rear ...also it was an early vette with single headlites... I cant think of a better way to infuriate a group of vette owners than to customize what they think was a "real "-59 vette all to hell! UNLESS MY-customizers "EYE" is totally off =Id say an early '90s Buick century grille will be a place to start on the grille opening here!
I like the idea and I LOVE the looks of that car. Unfortunatley I am no help to finding a picture of the back...
It was dubbed "the XP-7000" on the dream cars site,a GM prototype....I can't tell if it has the rounded 59 shaped **** or the pointed '61 '62 rear clip! ANY INFO/PIC-HISTORY, WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED HERE!
Yeah, Vette drivers look down on me... Because my Car is lower! Cool project, cant wait to see more of it.
Take a long weekend and drive up to the Henry Ford Museum and see it in person. That is as long as it's still on display there... That's where I saw it, It was Bill Mitchell's prsonal car called the ZP-700 on a '58 Vette ch***is I always thought the Beatnik Bandit borrowed some styling cues from it's front end too. Mysterion has the side scoops, only turned front to back. There's no Buick in it...Maybe some of it in later Buicks though!
ANY Detroiters have a pic???? It says its XP-7000 on the site I mentioned DRj....I wonder how it got mislabled? so you are saying it still resembles a 59 at the rear?
"A 1958 Corvette and was modified to be the personal car of William L. "Bill" Mitchell. First, in 1958, it received a special rear end of duck-tail type, which was incorporated in the regular '61 Corvette, and the front end was redesigned to look almost like the one of the Oldsmobile F88 '54 show car. In 1959, the car was modified again to became a real show car (pictured): longer rear end, new front end with smaller air intake, new transparent roof with a periscope in the middle of the two bubbles." Man-Thanks Zonkola! there is fodder enough to keep the juices flowing all winter.....Looks like the pointy restyled rear was customized from an early 58 rounded tail as it is laid down a lot more at the extremities than a '61-2 was......I am really glad to get some closeup looks at the details the pics you posted afford.....ESPECIALLY- the interior details/info..........Kenny
I've got four older Corvette coffee table history books I am selling. I'll look in them for any info.
