Well after reading the posts on hear about if a fenderless truck is actually tradional. I have decided to relocate a front end for my 38 chev pick up cab and turn it into a g***er. I will be using my existing frame but instead of using my spring behind axle set up I am going to use a stock ford with spring over axle. Anyone in the seattle area have a spare front clip or at least a grill shell? Look for some parts to be coming up for sale soon. ideas on this?
No parts but Portland swap meet is coming up fairly soon. I think that the no fender truck not being traditional thing has more to do with the stretched out look that sees to be the rage these days. there were little bobber trucks running around when I was a kid and Gary Fisher who had the Shell station in town where I live had a sweet 36 that was chopped and channeled but the front axle was still in it's original location rather than being way out in front of the radiator shell. It ran a 36 pickup grill shell that had been sectioned No hood and usually had a tri power small block Chevy in it. I think the grill shell I have in the shed is the one off that truck. It's saved for a future project to be named later. That was in 1962 and the truck had been around in that build for several years before that so yup they can be traditional. I see this truck around a lot and the one thing I like about it is that the front axle sits right where it is supposed to and not stuck out half a parking space in front of the radiator. It has a few non traditional pieces but still looks right to me.
Anyone out there have a grill shell and front fenders for a 37/38 Chevy or GMC? Here is a pic a buddy sent me of one he saw in a local shop. Exactly the look I am going to go for.
'37 - '38 Chev trucks make sweet g***er type rods....I built a '37 ch***is this last winter for my '38 cab and box.... the fenders in my pic are the original, but will be going with fibergl*** as I will be wanting to do some cutting and refuse to hack my gennie fenders....I will not be chopping the cab on mine though... I have a couple of pictures of mine in my album.... Tom
Plenty of fendered g***er trucks in here that look pretty damn good: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4663168
Anybody have a old set of front fenders laying around?? I picked up a grill shell now I need some fenders.
Here is a front end I picked up from Marshall here on the HAMB. Old school one piece front end for a 37 car which had been cut down for a truck. Thanks Marshall
...also, chopped tops were not allowed in the g***er cl***es...that would also put them into an altered cl***...
Larry, I stand corrected, you are right sir...no more than 4" TOTAL reduction of body height, (this includes chopping, channeling, and sectioning together)
