Several years ago I bought a '49 Olds Rocket. It came with a box of extra stuff. I have everything figured out but these two items. I think the round red thing is a coil of some sort, but have now idea of what the square red thing is. Help me out here, folks.

  2. The round thing is a coil and I am probably incorrect but the square thing is probably an early CD ignition.

My guess on the box with 3 terminals is an early transistorized voltage regulator. The coil is a Mallory I believe

What does the back of the transistor gizmo look like?

A plain aluminum plate with a sealant around the seams. I can post a picture if needed, but this describes it pretty well.

Could #2 be a sending unit for an early electric tac?

That's what I originally thought, but the heavy guage wires leave me to lean to the early voltage regulator opinion. This this has got to be old; I "googled" the number on the transistor, and I didn't get one hit.

    I found it!

Hot Rod magazine March 1963. Looks like one of the first accessory transistor ignitions

The first photo is an old Mallory high output coil, notice the circle with the M in it, I ran one on my first Street Rod engine.

At least mine had a circle with the M, I looked back at yours and it looks like it has been ground off, sorry.

Just went back to check if there was any more replies and there were. Jim and David, it seems you're both right. It looks like Kar-Life may have sourced their coils from Mallory? David, do you have the entire Kar-Life setup or just the coil? Have you run it?
