I would like to change the exhaust system on my Model"A" banger. The engine has a "B" cam ,Simon's head, and a Stromberg 97. Anyone know what it would sound like with a Smithy's gl*** pack? It also has a stock manifold. I am not looking for really loud, just a neat sound to let you know it is not a stocker. I heard some bangers at Muroc that sounded real good with some huge pipes.
They sound very good! The longer the muffler, the quieter the exhaust note. I run a 26" gl*** pack on my tudor with the tailpipe extended back to the bumper. My entire exhaust system is now made of 2" tubing and I really like its mellow sound.
I run a stock exhaust manifold and use an 18" gl*** pack. Don't know who made it- just off the shelf at my local muffler shop. Pipe sticks out the side in front of the rear wheel. Sounds about right- not to loud- not to quiet and every knows it is not stock.
My son has a B engine in his speedster and we were using a 26" Smithy's for a while. It had a nice 'throaty' sounds without being to loud. Only problem is it developed a rattle after a while. We found that the inlet pipe was pressed into the main body and once it became loose it sattled sround and made noise. We just recently replace it with an 18" long Cherry Bomb and I have to say I like it more now. The sound is definitely NOT stock and not to loud. We only run a very short pipe out the back of the muffler. As someone else suggested if you run a longer pipe out the back of the vehicle this will knock the sound down a bit more if that's what you're looking for.
This might help? Not great, but better than nothing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JuCWAf6WL8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duWGVLVaFC8
Ran a 26" smithy, too quiet for my taste. it resides in the trunk for when my lady rides with ddme. I have it set up to connect or disconnect in about a minute.
Sounds like a tractor actually but I dig it and so do most people who comment or make me start it up for them
I used a Red's 4 into 2 header with two Smithys and ran them all the way out the back. It is pretty quiet inside the car, but it has a nice throaty sound from outside. Overall, I am pretty happy with this setup. I was concerned whether or not I could fit that much exhaust under the car. It fits fine with no modifications. The final cost was around $500 for the headers, muffler, and install. Hope this helps, Mitch

I've got these two Model a exhaust systems, don't know what they sound like but they have aftermarket mufflers. They have surface rust but are solid and I'd let them go Cheap.
