I have a 1940 pickup and I need to choose should I fit a bench seat or a set of sports seats? I would welcome opinions advice or your own personal choice

    thanks

Excellent!!!!!!! ^^^^^^ (actually, first thing that crossed my mind)

A friend of mine put a pair of Recaro buckets in his traditional '32 five window. I really wigged out...asked him why...he said "Get in, take a ride..." We rode about 2 miles, then he brought me back. He asked what I thought NOW.

I said I thought he was a frustrated ex-Porsche owner with buyer's remorse.

Some things are meant for tuck-and-rolled bench seats. Traditional pickups come to mind.

  4. BENCH !! But I'm not sure what "sports seats" are. If you mean bucket seats, I'd say stay with the bench. If it was a 30s truck and you were cramped for room I'd go buckets, or I guess I should say individual seats. IMHO.

Bench. I'm putting a bench in my 38 Plymouth truck so if my wife scoots away I can slide her back on the next corner.

I'm putting a bench in my '40 coupe; it's about the same as a truck.

I'll jump on the bench bandwagon.

I used a late 80's Ford Ranger bench seat in my '48 pickup.
It tilts forward like original and gives about 3" more belly room.

In my 56 F100 I decided on the original bench, I was originally thinking a modern bench seat out of a late model truck with headrests for safety. The drawback is that they are much more bulky and modern looking. What I have decided is to find a headrests size that complements the original bench and modify the bench frame to accept a headrest. That way I have the traditional look and be able to be rear ended without snapping my neck back through the rear gl***.

Few buckets really work in older trucks.
This pair of what are probably first generation Mustang seats almost do a decent job in this Chevy AD truck.

Squared off corners on the lean back along with it not going up too high. They are small and in the truck they were in left a lot of empty space around them.

Still a well done bench will be a lot more comfortable most of the time and your lady can snuggle up if she wants to which is near impossible with buckets.

I've got a bench in my '38 Plymouth truck in my avatar, would never trade it for buckets.

i happen to have a pair of small airplane buckets going in my 38' ford truck and they seem to look and fit right. I would normally say BENCH seat.

Bench without a doubt....gives you a place for your girl, a place to toss stuff without it falling into the canyon in between the seats. A coupe can use buckets....IMHO!

I have buckets I got free, from some gm auto..they are comfy but I would take them out if I come across a good bench out of a late 80's early 90's toyota truck..they are comfy and have a fold down arm rest

I had originally decided on a bench seat but then made a compromise when I came across a set of 90's Cadillac seats. They are individual seats, but they sit tight against eachother and with the center armrest up they almost look like a bench seat.
Kind of the best of both worlds...and they are fully powered!
    Not bad for 40 bucks.

I am figuring a bench in my model A,and the reasoning behind is strictly so that I can take the dog(large).Unless of course the wife wants to cruise.

Old PU almost demands a bench seat for all the right reasons. If stable seating is an issue do some creative foam supports under the covers. I think we get "conditioned" by late-model cars/trucks sometimes. Recently someone new to vintage car ownership couldn't get their head around pumping the loud pedal a few times to start the car. While seating isn't a bad place to look for comfort and driving position, a 1/2hr with a cup of coffee and a milk crate could muster all kinds of good ideas.

  27. Bench without a doubt, if I don't like them that much they can stay the hell out of my pickup.

I went back and forth on the bench vs buckets on my '38 Chev PU....I finally went with buckets due to finding something I liked in a bench....I'm glat i did go to buckets, they fit perfect with very little gap between them, and not too high of a back... exactly what I was looking for.

Its your truck, do what you want. But a bench is more traditional. I am planning on a bench out of an Astro van or the Toyota truck. If the price is right, I will go with buckets.

Thats a hard one! Depending on style, on the truck, on the chick!

If it's a Stock looking truck, go with a bench.
If it's a street style truck, go with the buckets (not the modern ones).
If you have a hot wife and/or girlfriend thats often sits beside you: Bench!!!!

If its a daily driver let the pants do the talking.
