Look at this... Photos taken at August Soda Jerk, Humelstown/Hershey, PA cruise-in sponsored by the Blue Moon Cruisers... Was a beautiful Nova.. first drive on a 3 year build, supposedly had no plates on, the guy decided to do a burnout when leaving like a lot of folks do... drove right into a ditch. I didn't see it happen but heard guys say he was on the throttle the whole way in... (edited by original author) Just something to think about... i saw the undercarrige of the car..must have been a frame off since it looked beautiful... damn shame.. On the bright side, KustomKoupe aka zach got the roadster out for it's first ligit run... rock on!
I hate to laugh at anyones misfortune, but HA HA HA...that guy must feel like a horse's ***. I bet if it wasn't caused by him being drunk and unfamiliar with the car, then it was caused by a stuck throttle.
Leaving back to the 50`s about 6 years ago I decided to do a little burny. Oh god the cop was on my *** so fast my head was spinning. There we sit with quite a few beers in us. My wife was hiccuping when the cop walks up. I give him the paperwork. While we wait this other drunk *** in a 50 something ford 2dr slams on his brakes hangs it totally sideways past my car and into the ditch. He must not have been paying attention. I was very happy he did that cause the cop gives me a wreckless and lets me go. I ***** footed it home asap. Moral: dont drink and drive and dont be a dumb ***. That ****s about that nova looked real nice.
The guy shot himself in the foot, now he gets to pay for it. A wise man will never risk more than he can afford to lose.
HEY I edited the original post and withdrawl my statement on the guy getting a breathalizer and being hauled away,.. I thought about it, and since i didn't see it, I don't want to be speaking an untruth! So, yesm, he did do a burnout and did end up in a ditch, but since i didn't see the driver, i do not know anything about his condidtion.. sorry for the confusion.
Man I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but it just goes to show, YOU GOTTA PAY ATTENTION. When I was younger we used to have a cruise here in Alb friday and sat nights. We had a guy in a nice old Goat doing the same kinda thing one night. He'd let the guy in front of him move forward a bit then he'd do a burnout, like he was warming them up for a race. Then he would let it launch a bit. It was kinda fun until he didn't leave enough room between him and that fellow in front. I had never seen a gl*** hood on a GTO before, that one had one though. It was a huge mess, cops everywhere. Pretty much ****ed. Again, sometimes it's all about paying attention, ya know?
Guy did the same thing to a Nova in Langley leaving the A&W one weekend nite several years ago before I moved from the coast. Just finished a fresh build up of the car, threw the plates from his driver on it, no real plates or insurance. He was just grabbing 3rd gear when he lost it put a pole up the center of the hood. Quite a performance, one of the reason's the A&W was always getting complaints from the public. Gone now, was the last one with car hop service in Canada. Fordnutz.
At the Canadian Street Rod Nationals two years ago in Trenton the SAFETY inspector for the Canadian Street Rod ***osciation got a little liquored up, did a burnout and went right through a hotdog stand. Trenton said they will never host a Can-nats again.
First off, I gotta say... I LOVE doing burn outs! I also thinking driving while **** faced is the dumbest thing you can do... then to throttle your car up... that's just plain stupid. ... then, to do it in a car that you've never done it before... in front of a corwd, is just asking for it! Sam.
Oh my gawd, look at all those people watching him. he hehe...uhhh, yeah man....cool burn out. I can't help myself. Those pics are just funny. I feel bad for the guy, but DAMN man, its just that I KNOW he was thinking he was the king of the world there for about 1/2 second before the p***enger side tire decided to go down over that embankment. One second this dude is ten feet tall and bullet proof.....the next second hes laying head over *** in a ditch wondering where it all went wrong. Does anyone know any more info on this cat? Did he get hurt, other than his pride?

The alcohol thing always bothers me at the shows. I NEVER drive around the track at the Charlotte GoodGuys events. It is at night, after all them drunks have been doing the Budweiser thing all day.... I usually leave mid afternoon before the whiskey crowd leaves the show...plus I am back in the pool at the Motel before the traffic gets bad. I am not a prude, and do not object to a "little whiskey tasteing" but some of these clowns need to be locked up.......or walking....not driving a high performance vehicle. .
I bet if it wasn't caused by him being drunk and unfamiliar with the car, then it was caused by a stuck throttle.[/QUOTE] my wifes dad had this happen in my wife's t........showin' off.....throttle hangs wide open .....couldn't find the key ....slide the front tires probably 50 feet .....hit a wrecked cavalier right in the frame horn ....and knocked it off the pavement behind the garage.....and finally slid it around and shut it off......he lucked out and only killed the radiator and fan.....and knocked off both headlights......he won't drive any of my stuff ......brandon
funny you mention a stuck throttle When I put the new engine in my chevy several years ago I had a problem with a sticking pedal. The alignment of the linkage was messed up causing it to stick when I stomped on it.
do people really drive newly built cars without checking for safety issues like throttle operation? Id like to think anyone into hot rods would know better!
there are a lot of guys into hot rods who don't know diddly about simple things like making or checking for a safe throttle linkage. Personally, I never do burnouts...unless maybe there's a photographer from a major magazine across the deserted intersection, or if there's hardly anyone around. Doing a burnout when there are gobs of people lining the streets is unspeakably stupid.
YES. If it will crank and move.......somebody will try and drive it. Even if in it not anywhere close to being roadworthy. They might not try and take it to a show, but once around the block or just a burnout in the drive / in front of the house is pretty common.
I had a buddy back in high school who lived on "the island". The neighborhoods are basically built on manmade c****s and channels, so pretty much every houses back yard has waterfront. One night he and his sister went to to return rented movies in his '67 Camaro. This car was CLEAN and he spent 2 yrs restoring it. It had just rained and he decided to spin the tires around the corner...next thing you know...the car is upside down in 20' of salty *** water. BWAHAHAHAHAHA, ****in *****. I bought the wheels/tires/engine/trans/rear from him for $500 when they bought the car back from the insurance co. It went through ANOTHER full resto and was sold before he ever drove it again.
anyone remember the last mooneyes party?? i was striping a bike fender with my back to the street and heard the engine come up, the tires squeal then i heard the SMASH!!!! plows into a parked PT cruiser....nice. low performance drivers in high performance situations. watch out.
Idiot. That's how good cruise-ins get shut down. *****s trying futily to show off. If his car was so bad***, he wouldn't have to do a burnout to prove it's worth. Lead East is a prime example of this. Somebody was shooting flames and not paying attention, and burned some little girl. Now there's no more flamethrowing at Lead East. I love burnouts, but... there's a time and place for everything.
I couldn't agree with you more. Drinking and driving makes you the biggest **** face in my book! If I had a dollar for every time my drunk *** dad (10 yrs sober now) almost got me killed while driving me somewhere, I could buy every HAMB'er a beer. It took him 3 D.U.I.'s to figure out that you shouldn't do it. Now he apoligizes to me for taking my life in his hands. Thats a recipe for disaster.
good to see maybe this is making some folks think... by posting I certainly am not trying to make fun of the guy, I feel real bad for him... Just hope it makes us take a second look. (I for one would be doing burnouts if the old powerslide allowed it!) Yea, anyways this is the best event in our area, in my opinion, for monthly cruises. It cost's nothing for you to park your car, get out see (on this day easily 400 cars) and shoot the bull with folks... hope this doesn't ruin it with all the police and fire coverage... I also am very happy the guy didnt' apear to have been hurt, that's really what is most important!
And that my friends is why I'm a nervous wreck about everyone getting bold on the track at the Showdown. Only takes a second to **** up big, and not much to roll a car. This guy was still a dumb*** though...he-he-he.
