My dad just called and the guy that just won the car at the "Nat's" was a buddy of last years winner. I think that it was "PeteJoe" from the HAMB, and the NSRA was kinda' ticked that this guy won and he was using the F word alot or some sort. This is just a relay from my dad. Chris Nelson Kansas
My dad called and mentioned that they were driving thru the grounds "honking" and "Hooting" and having hella good time and the "gold chainer" guys were just giving the evil eye to them.
Geeeezzzz...what do they think acting like that? STREET Rods is serious business! They got no right to act like they're happy... Congrats to the winner!!!
I WOULD GUESS THERE WERE ENOUGH HIGH ROLLERS AROUND THE CAR ....IT COULD HAVE BEEN SOLD THERE IN THE BUILDING....NICE PIECE... THE BEST ONE ......THE DREW A NUMBER .....AND 2 GUYS WALK UP TO THE STAGE......WRONG NUMBER......BRANDON PLAYIN IN THE RAIN ....
Matt won the car. He has the little Y-block powered T that Petejoe has been updating us all on recently. (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64509) BTW, congratulations Matt. I met you and your p***enger in the church parking lot Friday night. TWO cool cars and a cool lady friend. You've got it made man!! JH
I'm one of those guys who thinks everyone is born with a ration of good luck. While I would like to have a high end car at some point I would be really reluctant to waste some of my limited supply of good luck on a car when there are $250,000,000 lotteries to win. So, no, I'm not envious. Not one bit. And hey Matt, good for you!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats MATT! Happy rodding!! All the "Street Rodders" were just jealous... (So am I a bit, "coolest" thing I ever won was a billet waterpump pulley. I still have it, in the pile of s**** metal in the corner I think.) I don't know what you won, or what they "valued" it at, but in a not derogatory suggestion, if ya don't "need" it you should sell it right away so you only have to pay taxes on what it's real selling value is rather than what the show may have said it was worth... (The ****ing IRS snoops are always at these big deals checking names and the NSRA has to tell in their taxes who they gave it to so they know you should be giving them their cut at the end of the year... ) When I was a teen, a local TV show was giving away that green Joe Ortiz custom Tbird (They called it "The Surferbird") and I was going to enter and my Mom asked me how I was going to come up with the money pay the taxes on the $8,000!? valued car if I won it...
Shoot it in primer, add some patina, bias plys and steelies, then drive it thru the power parkers area next year hooping and yelling and drop a few gold chains out the back as you drive thru. A BUDDY ONE A ALLOWAY CAR AT THE SHADES OF THE PAST A COUPLE YEARS AGO.....I THINK HE SAID IT COST HIM OVER 10K TO GET IT IN HIS NAME....AS THEY HAD IT VALUED AT SOME 6 FIGURE PRICE.....AFTER THAT HE RARELY DROVE IT FARTHER THAN THE TRAILER......BRANDON
I'm sure Matt will get plenty of guidance from PeteJoe as to what you need to do with a NSRA giveaway car. Don't forget even though it's free, it still has strings attached. It was cool to see him cruisin the fairgrounds , followed by both the '04 and '03 giveaway cars. Congratulations to Matt.
I resemble that remark . Hey Ryan, aren't you a '38 guy? You might be interested in my current project. It's a car I've had for several years and I decided to do some updates. I'll send ya' some pics to an e-mail address if you're interested. Modifieddriver
HA! it was a blast rolling thru that whole thing just a honking and a hollering! Damn goldchainers are too uptight! Should of been at the hotel later that night! Ban us? Hell, we make that show more fun! CONGRATS MATT!!!
Yes, Here's the story!! It was Matt who won the car. This is the guy who drove his traditional T to the Nationals and the car we all have been working so hard to make the show. He drove the T 400 miles to the nationals with his girlfriend with only 200 miles on the car. It ran great with no problems. He is and was very proud of his first build and he should be. It is a very cool car he has. Alot of the hambers got to see it during our Hamb get together at the show. I'm sure pictures will be found very soon of Matt with the bucket and the Hamb crew. Matt does not have a computer but is just as much a traditionalist as any here on the Hamb and he is humbled to see all of you here back him up and praise his work! I am so glad to see him win it. He drove the thing home tonight with no problems. Proud as a pea****. No .... the car is not his style but you surely can't say your not going to like a 80,000 car someone wants to give you. At the giveaway... 6 numbers were called... five were not there and one made a mistake about his number. When his name was called I about ****!!! Did he say Oh ****! when his numbered was called??? Yup! Was the word repeated all through the giveaway. Nope! Just rumors there... NSRA was not offended. Matt was with me when I won last years car and I was with him this year. Totally un****inbelievable. We've come to the conclusion that this was far more than just chance.... ya see..... Matt became a good friend of me through my son Nathan. Matt and my son Nathan were best friends. My son was a very big hotrodder helping me on many builds during his life. He died in a car accident five years ago at the age of 21. ya see I really think we had an angel upstair pulling a few strings for us these last few years. How could something like this be chance! Now for the cost factor and rules of the giveaway cars.. No you do not have to keep the car any length of time. You have to pay sales and federal taxes only on the cost of the parts. price??? your free car will normally take you about 10,000 to put the car on the road. Free? Most guys couldn't afford to keep them unless they had something to sell to make it up. I sold a car I had for 14 years to keep the roadster. Oh by the way.. It was great to meet everyone during the Hamb gathering. And I was proud to see during the parade through the park that many goldchainers just sneared and the Hamb crowd shook the fairgrounds when the yelled and cheered during his p*** by. Boy I'm glad I got to be here. Thanks Ryan for what you do, even if NSRA ****s . Tired Petejoe over and out!
I'd like to add my congrats to Matt as well. HAMBer or not, I'm glad he came to the meet and greet and allowed us all to check out his T. He did a great job on it. Matt's a very nice guy and I'm thrilled for him. I took quite a few photos of his T which I'll post tomorrow.
