Really solid.New chrome on bumpers.decent stainless. No engine or tranny. The sign said extra parts but I didn't talk to the owner to see what.
Prices have come down. Without a motor and trans I personally think it is a bit high. Just my thoughts.
Clean title, good glass, original seats and interior, anything modified? It might be, but that's not much info to go off of. It'd have to be pretty nice with no motor or trans in it.
Pictures would help! Seems too high but then there was a rotted piece of shit for sale at the Dunkirk (NY) Swap Meet that had an asking price of $4500.00 and supposedly sold for that amount.
I've seen barn fresh in need of everything bring $5500 and fairly recently at that. If you're going to stick a late model engine in it anyways, no motor shouldn't make a big difference, you'd spend the money on a crate motor or a rebuild of a used engine anyways.
sounds like a great price. but with no photos or description we don't know if it is a good price for you or the seller.
Prices are tough to pin down. If that is the car of YOUR dreams and it is in great condition and the "extras" bring good value to the deal, then yes it could be. To me, no it isn't worth anything. If it is what you have been looking for, get together with the seller and find out what is there and find out the real price. Check price$ on chrome work. ~Alden
Bought a "nice" Merc in primer back in '73..thought I was so smart for taking a magnet to it..didn't feel much different anywhere........... Bottom 2' of the car was bondo, that's why the magnet felt the same all over the lower section. I'd get under the car with a good flashlight before I did anything else...maybe it was restored with all NOS sheetmetal a few years ago..... or maybe not.
i think if it is strait and not rotten its worth it. the prices i get to repair rust and damage would or could be more.
If it's not rusted out and the body is STRAIGHT with every dash and body trim piece to the car is present, and just missing the engine & trans I'd say your ok. That $8500 is paying for no rust repair and body work up front..On occasion you can score a real solid one for $5k or so but not very often..You really need to post up some pics.
I saw it at RMR restorations in Brookline NH on Sunday and no one was there to ask for more details. My cell takes lousy pics so I didn't bother.Their # is 603 465 7270.They mave a web site but no pics of the Merc. They also have a facebook page.I can't afford another car so I thought I'd pass it along.
I guess I just know of mercs or something, I know of several cars that are pretty good for this kind of money or less and they are driver cars, hell I still know of a barris convertible in a garage close to me, has been there since 1972, is a solid car, just a mild car but still has the barris crest and the owner is the one that took it to the shop and had sam do the work, really cool story on the car and really cool guy, pretty sure I could buy that car for 10 grand or so. I also know of a 49 convert with a decent 50 coupe parts car for 10 grand, the coupe is a 1 owner car and pretty soldi car, OD car too. The convertible is rough but it is a 49 convertible. I am on the other end of the road though, not a dime to my name so I just kinda go check up on them once in a while, and keep buying my lottery tickets! LOL! Hell I found a really good old 51 hudson that I was wanting this past week, couldnt get the 1500 together to get it, its a good solid driver so I dont guess I will be picking up any of the others any time soon, but one of these days my ship will come in! Hell I was just wanting the Hudson so I could drive an old car for a change, havent had an old car to drive for many years, dont know when my merc will ever be done... Jim
Wish I could have found a nice solid 50 Merc for that money! I remember passing on a solid 50 Merc in Palmdale, CA back in 2000 for $6,000. Thought that was big money at the time. Not so now....
