Howdy All: Over the past couple months that my Chevy has been home from Sean Ornduff's shop I have been a little suprised how many folks are shocked that my rear quarter windows roll down at all, much less 4". Is this an uncommon practice when dealing with chopped cars or is it more uncommon that I have functional windows with slanted B pillars? Cheers, Sam Navarro
Beats me, although the '51 Merc coupe I cut the roof off of in the you pick yard I was quite surprised to see the quarter windows opened like vents instead of rolling down from the factory. Of course the Chevy business coupe is the same way, although the sedan quarter windows roll up and down. Seems like on a car where they do roll down it's just as easy to keep them.
**** look in the old mag's, lots of the cars didnt even have windows at all. But they were in so cal so the only thing you needed them for was to keep out the neighbors f'ing cat!!
Another is working vent windows. You see many that just eliminate the vent windows and go with one-piece gl***. Does not look finished unless it has vent windows. It was a lot of work to rework the vent windows on my 4-inch chopped 49 Ford COE, but the end result is so much better and they really do work good for ventilation. Sam, your rear windows are nice, they *should* roll down.
Hell, when I chopped my 55 Oldshardtop, I even figured out how to get the factory power rear windows to work!
I had to "Must" items when we talked about my chop..... #1- Working rear quarter & vent windows. #2- Having stainless all the way around all of the gl***. It took a lot of great work by Sean but he made them both happen & I am very pleased with the outcome. SN
is that where the gl*** ends up factory or do they normally roll all the way down on the sedans? I alwaysfigure if there was a window that opened before a chop it should open after.
****, Its unusual to have fuggin windows in a chopped car AT ALL! I think that by the time they've put all that work in a nice chop they're too tired and discouraged to even think about windows. I'll bet 75% of the chopped cars I've seen have non working windows.
its just another detail that usually gets put off or sometimes the builder just cant do it... roll down windows are a nice touch though.
....I had the same outlook when I started my chop (amateur, first chop). The re-shaping of the quarter windows, stainless, and internal garnishes took as much time as the roof chop itself. I did it single-handedly with a lot of self-doubt and grief and the results, while not professional, are fine for me. They function well and provide lots of air movement in the cabin while driving....also did the same for the vents.....
