Got the new Merc Flathead in the 40 and have a pair of 94's on it. Jetted down to 48's fixed some leaks messed with mixtures, had a friend mess with it and it still wont accelerate smoothly, and is still loading up some at idle. Has a 400 jr cam, full oil system, other than that and Reds headers and duals its a pretty stock 50 merc motor. Anyone know someone close I can take it to, I give up! Oh yeah, after it warms up one carb whistles and after it sits a few its flooded Help!!
Broken/cracked enrichment valve/valves??? Remove the rear carb, and verifiy the front 4 left. Then switch the carbs and verify the other one. Then put both back and drive. Or get two new Stromberg carbs. http://www.stromberg-97.com/
Powervalve leaks are common, the biggest problem with two 94 s I find is an off idle stumble, which us near- impossible to overcome, no real way to tune it out. I went to 97s, and would never run 94s again, they are an ****ache.
He isn't a flat-head guy, but he knows as much about engines as anyone on the planet, and he's in Ow***o. He knows multi-carb set-ups! http://www.smotherssupercars.com/index.html<O></O> <O</O And transmissions. Rebuilt a push-****on 727 for me......top notch and good prices.<O</O <O</O
Thanks guys, I left a message for Wayne, and then called Jim at HRG and I am going to take it to Jim on Monday.
