Does anybody know how long ago Racer Brown Cams was in business? I have found some cool old waterslide decals for my '65 Belvedere, but am wondering if Racer Brown was even in business back in '65. Any idea what year Racer Brown's shop opened up? Would the decal/logo have been used in '65?? Maybe some of the oldtimers on here might remember. Thanks for your help.
Racer Brown is still in business. I am in regular contact with them although not as much as before and often use their Mopar ST-H-42 cam in street /strip versions of my OR build. It, despite its age of design, has no equal. Probably a good 70 HP above the Mopar 500+ lift hydraulic at least. They even have a web page. Don Gould in Oregon handles a lot of their product as well (search foursecondsflat)He is a friend of mine. Jim Dowel runs the company today. They are in Baltimore and make one offs and custom grinds for about the same as the prepackaged stuff costs. Don
I was only 14 then, but I was driving, and there were two white chevys around town, one a '55 and the other a '56, they both had big decals in the back window, one was a large parrot w/ "Polidyne" written below it. I think that was Isky, the other had a big Racer Brown logo, can't picture it though. All this is to the best of my memory, of which my long term seems to be better than my short term!
This scan should have enough information to show Racer Brown was in business in 1965. His cams were real popular with the Mopar wedge racers.
When I traded in my Dodge 270 cam core to Hot Heads he sent me a Racer Brown camshaft in return. I think they are still in business on the east coast. Actually part of another comapny I think. 2 Stickers came with it, that say Racer Brown in an Arrow Shape. I don't think that was the old style though.
No they are their own company. Since no one believes me here is the phone number 410-866-7660 Tell Jim, Don Dulmage sent you. Be sure to say hi from me Don
I know this is a five year old thread and nobody will probably see my post. But I successfully ran a Racer Brown roller camshaft in an NHRA record holding SB Chevy powered gasser back in the very early 60's. Racer Brown cams were considered among the very best in that era. The logo was three cam lobes, each a different color, spaced 120 degrees apart. The current Racer Brown Cam company has zero connection with the original Racer Brown who also wrote a number of outstanding tech articles for Hot Rod Magazine back in the day.
He just reground a Desoto cam for me and did a stellar job. Stand-up guys like Jim are why I love this hobby...
