I picked up a '47 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan with a 216 that has been sitting for about 3 years with a stuck valve. To my knowledge, that is all that is wrong with it. I would really like to get this running, and soon, but I just don't have time. Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic to get the valve unstuck and give the car a once-over? I live about 20 miles southeast of Dallas, but I am willing to travel a bit if need be.

I don't want to sink too much $$$ into the 216, as it will eventually get replaced with something that has full oil pressure, but in the mean time I'd like to be able to drive it a little or at least move it without pushing it!!! Thanks guys.

Let me know how you get on. I'm 20 miles east of Dallas with a 216 out of my 47 Stylemaster I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it.

Wow, can't believe no one has given you any leads. hopefully someone responded by PM at least. Give me a call at the shop in the morning I have two great mechanics that can fix you up. We just finished doing exactly what your going through on a inline 6 out of a 51 dodge pickup. Once you get the valve unstuck you'll need to give it a compression check. 972-442-9793

Oh we're in northeast dallas so it will be a drive.

I live just down the road from you. How do you know it's a stuck valve? Sounds like you haven't even had it running to find out?

I bought a Packard that had sat for like 10-15 years and it had a couple of stuck valves, I just let it set there and idle after getting it started and pretty soon they unstuck. Car ran like a clock after that.

And old trick is putting a little trans fluid down the carb while running, also heard of guys doing the same w/water but never tried that one....

I am ***uming its a stuck valve because that is what the gentleman I bought it from told me. The price was right whether it's just a stuck valve or completely blown up, so I bought it without investigating. I have not even turned it over yet, as right now I just simply do not have time to get involved with it. This winter I will be able to mess with it, but I'd like to get her going before then.

Ntxcustoms, I thought of you guys but didn't realize you did much mechanical work. I'll give you a call here in a bit, as you're the only lead I've got thus far. Any person in particular that I need to talk to?
