I have a large frame Ford 3G in my hot rod and am just getting it running. I wired in the 3G for one wire. The small center wire stayed in it's original position and the yellow/white "A" wire from the 3 prong plug to the main Batt hot lead. No charge but would charge good when I full fielded it. So I took a regulator from a small frame that I thought was good but it's the same, no charge unless I ground the test terminal/screw. Have I missed something or did I just get 2 bad regulators? I have no more junk alternators and hate to spend $84 at the parts store for a new regulator. Thanks

I guess nobody here runs a 3G one wire? When I get it sorted out I will be the guru I guess, lol. I did find lots of info on specialty Ford sites, just not a direct answer to my question here.

Take a look at the attached drawing and see if it helps.

Sounds like your wire labeled A is hooked up correctly, not sure about the other 2 wires on the color, but they should be marked S and I . If I remember right the S wire will plug right back on to a single stator plug on the alternator, the wire labeled I should go back under the dash to the idiot light, or ignition power, that is the exciter wire.

That's the way I understood it too and that's how I have this one. I think probably I got a second bad regulator. I was 99% sure I had it right but it never hurts to ask because generally there is someone here who is a helluva a lot smarter about things than I am.
BTW, you don't have to do anything to the S wire if you have the original plug because it's already where it belongs, just looped back to the small single connecter.
