I have been looking at the Vertex and Joe Hunt HEI Magneto look alike distributors to use in my Hilborn injected 327. I need a ignition signal for my ECU so a mag won't work.
I found a few and heard that they are both pretty unreliable.
Today I spoke to a guy who told me that Vertex has stopped making thier HEI mag. It is being redesigned and could be available later this year.
Watch for problems with current models.

TAYLOR used to make a HEI (Magneto) look alike, they weren't cheap at $750. I've seen them on online auctions however when you click on link on Vertex web page link it is no longer there, so chances are it has been discontinued.

Purchased 2 Taylor-Vertex electronic distributors (Mag appearance) from Parr in February 2010 for my projects. Ran one for the first time in my 5 window about 3 months ago to break in the camshaft and started the motor about a dozen times since. Car has never been on the street. Went to start it yesterday to drive for the first time and it would not start. Traced the problem and it was in the distributor failure. Took the original out and replaced it with the other one I had on hand. Engine fired immediately. I called Taylor-Vertex to see what I needed to do to test the unit to see if it was the module or the coil. Taylor told me they discontinued these units about 3 years ago because they were not reliable. No replacement parts available. Said they were working on a prototype replacement but it would not be done for at least another month. Patrick took my name and phone number and said he would call when they had a replacement and would work with me on replacing.

My second and remaining Taylor-Vertex HEI mag look-a-like went out a week ago Saturday, September 29, 2012, on my way to The Geezer Gathering. Had to trailer my 5-window home on Sunday. Called Taylor-Vertex every day last week trying to get a resolution. Trying to get them to at least give me credit toward purchasing real magnetos. Each day I was promised a call back that never came. Finally on Friday I was told they would not give any credit toward an upgrade. They are still working on a "prototype fix" but have no idea when it will be available to the public (at least two months). They would not commit what they will do when they finish testing the prototype, or if they will do anything. In the mean time they told me to go buy another distributor if I wanted to drive my car. Wish I had read other threads on the HAMB, some dating back to 2007, before I made the decision to purchase two of these fine distributors and getting the opportunity to experience the fabulous customer service provided by Taylor-Vertex Wiring Products.

Fake lookalike vintage racecar parts are Off Topic.

The HAMB is not a Street Rod site.
