Since we are coming from Portland, we won't meet up with I-80 until we hit Wells, NV.

...I-84 to Twin Falls, 93 to Wells, NV and I-80 into Wendover.

Hi; If you cut off at bliss off 84, I think it is exit 137, to HW 30, you can bypass Twin falls which can be kinda confusing and stop and go traffic, it comes back out on HW 93 to Jackpot and Wells, its 2 lane back road with a lot better seenery than the freeway. The new route you are taking is the one we have taken many times from Wenatchee Wash. lots of freeway, but at least there is phone service and parts. GOOD LUCK Chris

I agree I like this way also, nice scenery and small towns.

  5. We start about 40 miles N of Seattle and intersect your route in Pendelton. Unfortunately we don't leave until Friday afternoonish and drive straight through. But this is the way we go every year and there is cell service most of the way. And it isnt too far between places to stop, with plenty of rest areas.

Wish we were leaving earlier, I would love to follow you guys down even though we will be driving a late model ride.

  6. So Chris and I have chosen to alter the route in favor of more H.A.M.B. friendly territory and better cell coverage just in case as many of you suggested
Probably one of the smartest moves you guys have made for this trip.
I'm 20 miles west of Ontario, Ore & have a shop with a lift if anyone needs it. My trailer hasn't been licensed since 09 so can't help much there. If you need help 541-473-2086. Two good truck stops in Ontario. I always use Pilot witch is the 2nd one & Loves is the 1st heading south On I-84.
Be sure to take your St Christopher medal for a safe fun trip. Just stay in the right lane & you will be fine. There is a pretty good grade(4193' @ the summit) coming out of Pendelton so carry plenty of water. Just take your time & you should be fine. Lots of sunscreen.
I been cost to coast & border to border & canada (85000) in the 32 roadster & never carried a spare or parts or tool kit. Might call it luck but preperation & maintenance is the key. Never had a flat or broke down. Course I run a 350/4L60 combo.

You could be heading through Montana Dodge Boys territory. Drop them a line on their website or FB page, they are heading Wendover way with the roadster.

Good luck with the trip, will hopefully see you there!

  9. I will be coming out on the 8th over I-80 with plenty of tools, parts, fuel and oil but since you've changed your route there isn't much that we will have in common. My buddy and crew mate will be coming down from Twin Falls in a VW Camper bus I'll give him a heads up to watch for you guys.

Be sure to come by our pits, I'd love to see the cars in person. Oh, and you guys too. :p

  10. WOW! That will be one heck of a trip. I would be glad to help, but I,m on the other side.
I wish you good luck and will see you there!

Absolutely the road to take. From Bliss, on down to Jackpot is the type of back country road you guys are looking for. a slower pace, outstanding scenery, and some good old vintage tin hunting.

Chris and Clayton and crew had to re-plan their trip after burning a little too much midnight oil this past week. They should have left this morning around 5:30AM or 6AM or so. If all is going well, they should be about 300-400 miles closer by now. Hopefully they will give us an update along the way when time permits!

    Here's your update.

We started out a little late. We were on the move when the crank in the speedster (Becker Special) let loose right outside of Portland. The shaft snapped right after cylinder number one. The speedster got a ride home on the Triple-A Taxi.

Clayton continued on in the 26 and Chris is going to catch up with us tonight when we stop. Sadly, without the Becker Special.

We made it about 60 miles past the Dalles, OR and officer Mitchell kindly pointed out that The DMV was wrong when Clayton registered the T and he needs either a full complement of lights, or a Special Vehicles plate to continue on to Bonneville. We drove back to the Dalles and Clayton is re-registering his car as I type this.

To help him pay the $160 "toll" given to him by officer Mitchell and help defray the costs of the re-registration to officer mitchell's satisfaction, I am donating to Clayton's PayPal account (falconman19652000@yahoo.com) If any one else would like to do so, I'm sure Clayton would appreciate it. Just trying to help a fellow H.A.M.B-er out!

Ouch! That's no fun. I will hope and pray that the '26 continues on without any further mishaps.

Getting ready to hit the road. Clayton's T is now officially an "antique" so far as Oregon is concerned.

Thanks for keeping everyone updated Andy! I am sending good thoughts into the cosmos that you guys won't run into any further issues. While it's not the start we all imagined, I am so glad you all are back on the road again, and hope you get some well deserved rest tonight.

Subscribed. Sorry to hear about the two-piece-crank club membership and the trouble with the law. Hopefully the rest of the trip will be smooth.

Thanks for the heads up on this thread, MrsModelT.

You bet Dave. The good news is that Clayton says the T is running like a champ. That's one big victory! I am sure he will update some more once they get settled in tonight.

  21. Quite an adventure thus far! I hope the rest of the trip is less um, "eventful."

Well, crud! That's got to be a major disappointment for them. I hope things get fixed quickly at Bonneville and the '26 can be enjoyed the rest of the time and for the trip back.

Clayton, if you don't sit around and idle. You don't need a fan. A Model T fan quits pulling more air through the radiator @ about 10-14 MPH. If you don't have any other acc. running off the fan belt give it a try. I have never run a fan on my T and regularly drive in 100+ degree heat. (P.S) I do have a good radiator.

Mike, we put an electric fan on the roadster. When the fan hub gave up the ghost we where about 39 miles from Boise.uckily it happened under the only overpass between there and Boise. My friend Jay and I suggested an electro for the car and renting a trailer. We called ahead to Boise and found a trailer and Troy called the local NAPA in Meridian and got all the parts we needed for the fan. Jay and I were dispatched out to get the parts first in Meridian and then go to Boise to pick up the trailer and come back to get the roadster.

By this time it quarter to five in the afternoon, and we stil had about 375 miles to go ( about a four and half hour drive). Jay and I got to Meridian and promptly got lost in a one horse town. After three turn arounds we finally found the local NAPA. As we pulled into the parking lot we were trying to figure out how to get the trailer and parts the fastest way possible and not end up driving an extra 80 some miles round trip. Remember the trailer is in Boise.

As we pull into the parking lot we look off to right and there happens to be a uhaul right. next door to the NAPA store. We get the fan and high tail it to U haul look in the parking and I tell Jay there is our trailer! Walked into the office and asked if it was being used and the counter guy says NO and I well it is now! Paid for the trailer hoped back in Jay's truck, went back put the car on the trailer and high balled to Wendover. We got into town
    Around 11:45pm.

Electric fan? Good thing Clayton opted for the alternator!
