Can anyone give me some insight on how to attach the hood on a 47' Ford coupe? Hood was off when I bought the project. The hinges were still attached to the hood. Since I didn't take it apart I'm not sure how it goes back together. Can't seem to get the hood on with the hinges attached. Should the hinges be attached to the body first? Trying that right now but still having some issues. Doing this by myself also. Any help would be appreciated.

Either way is pretty tough by yourself. If you put the hinges on the car, rest the back edge of the hood on the cowl (if its not freshly painted of coarse) and prop up the front you should be able to swing the arms up to meet the hood. Not much room to get your hand in for the bolt. Thats how I have done it during mock up. Invited freinds over to put it together after paint.

Thanks for the reply. Your way is the way I'm attempting to do it right now. Good to know I'm at least on the right track. Thanks again.

And I left the hinges on the body not on the hood it seems the easier way to put it on like drs noted. My hood has bolts attached to the hood so if you leave them bolted to the car it's one less thing to try and juggle putting it on

I'm getting ready to put mine back on so I was hunting for the photos myself. I don't know how it's held onto the cowl but the hood side of it should have studs. Then just line it all up and put the nuts on. Multiple hands should make it go easier

I attach the hinges to the cowl. then remove the latching pin from the front of the hood and attach the hood to the hinges.then do my adjustments on the hinges so the hood fits correctly. can be tedious. If I remember correctly the higher the hinges sit on the cowl, the lower the rear of the hood sits on the cowl. make sure all/ any rubber hood bumpers are in place. Reattach the latch pin and slowly adjust it up/down until the hood latches and can be released. sometimes a quarter turn is all you need.

Just got back online. Thanks for the additional replies. Got it bolted on finally, just not sitting right but I figured it would be in the adjustments. Thanks fordor41....also read that about the where the hinges sit. That's the issue I'm having now. Gonna give it a try and see if the back of the hood sits lower on the cowl. Thanks again everyone!

I am also putting the hood back on my 47. Is there a rubber gromet where the hinge attaches to the cowl?

There were on my '47 when I removed the hood and hinges for paint. Haven't found any replacements yet. May have to make some.
