I need to either rebuild my '60 falcon front brake cylinders or buy new ones. How complicated is the rebuild? Can I just dis***emble them, clean and re-***emble? And are there any special tools needed like C-ring pliers? Never did it before but I'd love to be able to just clean them up if possible. Thanks!
I see you didn't get an answer yet. The short answer is yes...you can rebuild them if the bore isn't too pitted from corrosion. Otherwise, just buy new ones...not too expensive. More importantly, have you ever done a brake job before? Pulled brake drums off? The reason I ask, is if you haven't done any of this before, you need some pointers. If you'd like, I can give you a step by step.
They are very easy to rebuild if you have the right tools to do it with . On the other hand they are cheap enough to replace too . If you do rebuild them , make sure to check the bleeders first to see if they are rusted shut or not before you buy the parts . If you take them apart you need new rubber to replace the old with so just rebuild them . As for special tools , a cylinder hone , drill , some brake clean , standard brake tools and that's pretty much it . Retro Jim
Rickybop.....thanks for your offer. I think I'll just go ahead and get new ones. It sems the quickest, easiest way to go. Thank you all for your input.
