OK! I KNOW this like asking "How much does a car cost?".....but ***uming the body is in ALMOST mint condition, how much could I expect to spend on a paint job for my black 60 Falcon wagon?

    2 grand?
But of course I'd have to get everything re-chromed too.

Even if the body is almost mint, to go shiny black it should be mint..Like blocked extensively or it shouldn't be painted black.
With that said, i'd say you're light on your thought.
I'd expect to pay 2 times that or MORE for a quality paint job, with quality products.
Now, that's not to say it can't be done for less, it can. It could be done for less than the 2K you mentioned, but it'll look it.

I'm not a painter, but have painted a number of cars and am just going by what i know and what i've experienced.
A gallon of the copper i used on my old 53 cost me a grand..just for the base (with a shop discount besides)..so there's many variable's to consider.

A quick Google about Maaco paint jobs turned up this:

cjenquin: A standard Maaco paint job costs about three hundred dollars. This price does not include any extras, like removing trim pieces, car dealer emblems or painting anythin more than just the exterior areas. You can find more information here: <C>http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic451...</C>

Just remember you get what you pay for.

What shade of BLACK ? Flat or super shinny ? That means the cheapest the the most costly !
Have you looked into what brand of paint you want to use yet ? Most anything you see on a modern made auto will cost you the most . there are some really great paints out there that will be with in reason depending on how shinny you want it .

It all depends on what quality paint job you want. I have seen $10k paint jobs that rocked the house and $3k jobs that looked good at 5'. Im not one to spend big bucks on a paint job. Only because I like to drive to much. I think the last paint job I had was $900 Ha Ha

I've always painted my own cars, but in California we can no longer buy the paints that I'm comfortable spraying. The days of acrylic lacquer and enamels are long gone. The equipment necessary to adequately spray the new and legal materials is so costly that the home builder is forced to go to a professional shop for a paint job. I would think that 8K is a reasonably price for a good job. Of course there are options, like the Summit materials, and I think they are probably adequate for a quickie. But I doubt that the results would be "show quality".
