Been a member for over a year and thought it was about time I introduced myself. In my early 30's, Fitter & Turner by trade, but currently doing 3D CAD design. I work for a large defence company spe******ing in Ballistic and Mine protected vehicles, designing drive systems. I'm a VW guy at heart but have been in the local hot rod scene since my teens, I have a real p***ion for early rods and customs. I've basiacally built a VW a year since I was 17, which has been a great way of getting your hobby to pay for itself and teach yourself the nescessary skills to get it done. Most have been fairly mild builds (stock body/engine, slammed and a set of nice rims). My current ride is is more in line with the kustoms that I love......... Mild suspension drop, 3in roof chop, numerous small body mods too. I bought it earlier this year, the majority of the body work having been done back in the 90's. Although it looked great, mechanically it was a disaster zone, so far I've rebuilt the front and rear suspension, brakes, new gearbox, fuel pump, dizzy, regulator etc etc. And have only recently got it to a point where it's been nice and reliable, so I can now finally get stuck into doing a few more body mods, I've got a heap of ideas for it, drawing inspiration from right here on the HAMB, I started with a tunnelled antenna in the front guard..... So I know it's not really HAMB friendly, but alot of the inspiration behind it comes from here and the great early Rod & Custom scene we have here in Vic, The likes of Ben from Rancho Deluxe, Luke and the crew from Fuel Magazine/DVD and of co**** Ryan, Kyle and all the Eldorado's that bring us our little slice of nirvana every October in "Chopped" thanks for the inspiration boys Rhett.
