It's due to arrive Sunday afternoon (Around 3PM). I think me & the wife are going to gaze at it for a day or two and make some plans. I just picked up a 34 grill for it and a 34 master dash. I like the look of the gauges in front of the driver & the glove box is a big plus. Besides it's easier to look at the gauges directly in front of you. I found it distracting to have the gauges in the center. With all the dumb-***es on the road today; I don't want her to have any unnecessary distractions. From what I hear it is a direct bolt in as they are both 41" wide. I'm trying to steer the wife in the right direction but she will have some say in it. After all it's her car. She wants to put a hood on it & I'm trying to tell her "It's a 33 with a 34 grill it will not work without a lot of cutting and welding". Then she is pointing out a few street rod things and I'm finding myself pulling her back to reality. "Am I going to have polished aluminum this & polished aluminum that?" AHHH!! I love her to death just because she loves cars as much as I do but doesn't quite get the whole mixing of styles thing. She sees things & "That would look kool on the car". For instance: she wants to go with a 2 toned paint scheme. It just wont work on a car no hood, bobbed rear fenders, & cycle fenders up front. There just isn't enough body to 2 tone. But it's fun playing with her. She'll get it someday......Maybe.
I'm intrigued by the '33 3 windows as well...I sure can't afford a Ford of the same vintage. I have my eye on a "barn find" near my home... '33 standard 3 window roller. Thanks to all for the great info on these cars.
Well I got the car today and I'm very happy with the deal. We have some work to do but it's going to be a fun car to build. Pictures of the delivery can be seen here...http://public.fotki.com/BIG-JIM/mers-33-chevy/
I gave been doing a lot of parts gathering. I had the dash media blasted along with the windshield garnish molding as they are too long for my cabinet. They came out great almost zero pitting. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be a very HAMB friendly car. With a lot of chrome & polished stainless parts on it & a real flashy paint job. It is going to be all hot rod though. Basically a kick *** engine 4 speed auto trany 4 wheels & some seats. It has polished Halibrand knock offs with radial tires. Polished carbs with a hilborn scoop. I think the only things the HAMB wont like is the flashy paint job & the digital gauges. I hope I don't get banned for those last 2 words. I suppose giving it these things is better then sending it to the crusher.
Hey Jim just looked at your album. Looks like you have been doing some parts gathering. Nice axle and tunnel ram! Should look great when you get it on the 33.
Yeah I've been working on little things. I have a set of Guide lights I'm working on now. Thinking of going with them over the updated stainless 32's. I'll do both then just mount both to see what looks better. Can't believe how much stuff there is to these cars. This car is pure hot rod with no amenities not even heat and there is still a ton of stuff to get. I have almost everything I need. I need a gas tank, front wheels, steering column, gauges, windows, ebrake, exhaust, and a shifter. Hell I still need a bunch of stuff... Do you know Rob ***mings in Manchester? He has a 30 or 31 Chevy sedan turned tub. Nice guy with a big heart.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that one...LOL He has been at it for about 15 years & last I knew he was about half way. Kind of a mild (Safe) R-- Rod. Here is a link of his video's. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAF11C2AD64DBC404
Well I'm at it again! I have a CL find that I'm trying to identify. Wheel base is 108" that tells me its a standard but the doors are 38-1/2" wide. Mine are 39-1/2". It needs wood work but it is chopped & the roof is filled. So are we looking at a master or standard here?
That's strange I see them?? Well here is a link to my FOTKI site. http://public.fotki.com/BIG-JIM/items-for-sale/page7.html
The '33 Chevy is difficult to discuss and determine due to confusion about the model names and how they are commonly referred to. The "Eagle" is the top of the line and is commonly referred to as the "Master." It came in two trim levels; deluxe and standard. The "Mercury," which was introduced mid-year, is commonly referred to as the "Standard." I'm no '33 expert, but what I know is that the Eagle's wheelbase is 110 in and the Mercury's wheelbase is 107 in. These specs may be off a bit if you have modified car with late model rear under it. According to the parts book, the doors for the Eagle 3W Coupe and the Mercury 3W Coupe are the same. The best way to tell the Eagle model from the Mercury is to have an original barn find that still has the trim tag on the firewall. The Job Number will tell you what model it is. With the late introduction of the Mercury model, there were fewer of them made. The two p***enger Mercury coupe (trunk) totalled about nine thousand and the four p***enger Mercury coupe (rumble seat) totalled about two thousand. I can't provide any additional dimensions, so I'm hopeful a '33 owner who knows exactly what he has will be able to post some for you.
my car is a mercury series, with a rumble. some where on this forum i posted dimensions but i can't find them. i think the big differences were in the width of the dash board and windshield, and width of the grill shell. the mercury series used a louvered hood side panels and the front fenders were peaked [like yours]. i will get dimensions after dinner.
measurement across inside of windshield gasket and dash board width is 38" grill shell insert opening is 16" at widest point. how does that compare?
How do the rear fenders mount one of the easiest way to tell if you have a shot the inside fender I can tell you what it is. also the dimensions of the deck lid will tell me for sure as well standards are slightly narrower and shorter than a master. I am building a standard my pops is building a master so we have been comparing also if it has the right dash masters have a glove box and standards do not.
I though in 33 both master & standard had no glove box. I thought the glove box didn't come out till 34 but I could be mistaken. I had a 33 standard about 10 years ago & just picked up a master and neither had a glove box. I found a 34 dash & I am installing it into my wife's 33. It is a direct bolt in.
That's a 33 Master hood in this picture. The Masters had the 3 doors and the Standards had the louvers.
You might be right on the glove box Check the measurements of the deck lid and how the fender rear fender bolts in.
Have you thought about how your going to register the car in the future? When was the last time it was registered, was it either by the previous owner who sold to you or done in CT. If not you should plan ahead and look into whats needed for registering a composite build in CT. I looked it up and its no fun! Save your receipts
As long as you have good numbers & the vin verification done you should be able to go down to the dmv & get it registered without an issue. We don't have a vehicle inspection any more. Unless I'm being naive.
