Hello All, I found a Vertex Scintilla Magneto this weekend while I was "picking" through some other car parts. I am trying to find some info on this thing and was hoping there is a "Vertex Wizard" on the Hamb! There is a Tag on the body that says NV4 and a number 500-1850-17. Stamped on the body of the magneto is another number- 19949. Anyone know anything about this? I have a Model A with a Banger and was thinking it may be cool to run this. Thanks all! Chris-
Chris, Find out what it's rotation is (clockwise/counter) to see if it will work with your A. Otherwise, an NV4 should work- check with GMC Bubba to see if it would need to be adapted.
I googled and came up with a good bit of info- one was on a Riley, and the next was a fordbard thread that talked about using one for a B engine. Research will be your friend
Now let's settle it empirically, just to be sure. Hold this wire off the floor while I see how it turns...
NV4 is the 4 cylinder model. Rotation is important but can be swapped. 500-1850-17 means you have 17 degrees of advance between 500 and 1850 rpm. I've only found two styles of drive on the Scintilla mags. One is the VW style and the other is MG which is the same as the Ford 4 Banger.
Thanks all for the feedback! I am going through a 8ba transplant in my Model A. I am thinking about selling this Mag because it would be years (if ever), before I would use it. It turns free and I pulled the cap off it last night. It's all in there, minus the gear on the end of the Mag. Any thoughts on the worth of it? I will post some pics in the next day or so.
