Hey! Im in need of a straight on pic of the front of an early flathead V8 BEFORE the timing cover and distributor go on!! I have cutaway drawings and prints and such, But I could really use a real life pic! If you have one of your "in place" engine, or one on a stand it would be great! Mostly looking for the gearing and alignment of the timing gear, crank gear, and oil pump... nothing technical, just for a proper perspective art project. Ive got an extra setup outside, but no time to tear into it for what I need! Thanks!!
Timing gears are at the front of the crank, oil pump is driven off the back of the cam via an idler. Mart.
Timing gears are straight forward on the flathead....Install the gears with the timing marks lined up to each other. As Mart said, the oil pump drive gear is on the rear of the cam. If you haven;t bought the gears, use the aluminum ones......They last a lot longer than the phenolic (aka fiber) ones do. Happy Flatheadin' 4TTRUK
I think we need to settle this at the beer pong table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe Bill is helping some little kid cheat his way through Art school?
