    Clayton,

    First, CONGRATS!!

Second, no one else has said so, and I know dick about Model T's (learning) but the timing sounds too retarded to my ear. Been around lots and lots of Model A's, so do know what that sounds like.

Third, did the accelerator pumps ever decide to come to life? One of the Stromberg's best features. Shouldn't be any of the lag we were hearing.

Fourth, have fun! Man I wish I could make Bonneville...in the 'A'.

    Jim,

Thanks! You are very correct actually. The distributor I have on this new motor is a centrifugal automatic advance unit made and donated by Bubbah's Hot Rod Ignition. At idle the dizzy is at 0 degrees (for easy starting by hand or starter). The dizzy is also calibrated for full advance around the 2,200 to 2,600 rpm range for a T....with correct dwell and curve settings.

Since this vid, I have messed with the carbs again and they have gotten much better. Still have some tuning to do but most of the issue was that bad coil. It really doesn't have allot of bottom end right now.....but top end it has in spades! It has TONS of power in the top end and REALLY long legs!

...it's almost scary fast....just the way it should be :D

Clayton, just a thought on the ignition setup. Have you considered putting a manual advance/retard lever on the steering column so that you could set more advance into the system, but still retard it for ease of crank starting?

I think this would be unnecessary. The dizzy on my new engine is an automatic advancing unit (centrifugal advance) that is setup to be at 0 degrees (retard) at idle for safe and easy crank starting. It is also calibrated to be at full advance at max RPM while maintaining proportional dwell across the curve.

It was designed and setup specifically for T's to eliminate the need for the manually adjusted timing lever.

    ...and it works great :D

  6. Hmmm, I bet Bubba could set one up like that for my '28 Chevy! Hmmm... :)

He most certainly could! He specializes in vintage ignitions and REALLY knows what he is doing and does REALLY nice work! Jim is a Super nice guy too...one of those "go above and beyond" kinda guys.

I will only go to him from now on with ANYTHING vintage ignition related on my cars..PERIOD.

    Check him out here:

Will do! He is hopefully sending me some more pictures today. I was able to talk to him more in depth last night. He said he was in complete awe of the awesome things he was getting to see, and people he was meeting. Many rides have been given and he was proud that quite a few people recognized his car...including some guys from Sweden who told him he did a good job copying MrModelT's Roadster...haha :D It has been very humbling for sure. He said the salt is a kind of like a really strange mix between snow and beach sand, and it sticks to everything-- I have a feeling he will be cleaning out salt from every corner for quite a while! The fan has been totally fixed and they will be checking out Tuesday morning to head back and be home Wednesday. Clayton plans on driving it all the way home too, hopefully we won't run into any other issues.

Gotta give him credit for a great shakedown cruise. Heading out on a trip like that for the first run shows that he did a good job on the car. Great way to collect memories too.

Absolutely, I am so very, very proud of him. It was so neat watching him go through every single bit of that car with incredible detail and thought. It's a trip of a lifetime for sure.

Really great to hear. I'm amazed at the effort from Clayton as well as a couple other fellow hot rodders who assembled their cars in such a short period of time to make automotive events like Bonneville. Inspirational to say the least.

I do have to applaud Clayton for being able to get this pre-war hot rod up and driving in time to make it to Speed Week, especially with having to fix a broken fan while at Bonneville. Can't wait to see what he has to say, and show. Thanks goes to you, MrsModelT, for keeping us fellas updated on Clayton's trip.

Here's to a safe trip home for Clayton and everyone else..

Thank you! You "Hambers" are a big part of our life, our great friends from afar ;) It was my pleasure to do the updates (I don't get to post too much past giving 2 thumbs up here and there, I am definitely not the car genius... so it was nice!) You all have been so kind and supportive of Clayton's vision for years, and I am very grateful for that. Without your advice and cheers of support-- making such a super tight deadline like this one was, would not have been possible. So thank you ALL for that so much. :D

Julia, don't sell yourself short. Without our "support staff" not much would get done. My lady has been with me through 45 plus years of shared insanity, drag racing cars and motorcycles, playing with sports cars, riding motorcycles on street and dirt, building hot rods, restoring an airplane (and flying for 21 years) and building our current HA/GR project. I'd still be beating my thumb with a rock without her by my side.

Well, they're making good time. Hoping to be in Ontario tonight. They just dropped me off at the hotel so they've got a little less dead weight. :D

    Should be home tomorrow!

Thanks guys! It was a great adventure!
