Sounds like a air leak at the intake gasket for 1& 2 port

yep spray a bit of quickstart around the inlet manifold while the motors running and see if it starts to rev

  3. If u think it's carb it's ignition
Check your points and ignition switch

Is it the points? Will the car run fine then get off the freeway & then start sputtering like its has a bad fuel pump but still run while flooring the gas?

I had the same problem and it ended up being the Condenser.

A's are notorious for burning condensers. The heat cooks them.

  6. You need to have a resistor to keep the points from burning if you are running 12 volts. This was probably included in the conversion. I just thought I would ask.

  7. I agree with CDO, check your condenser first, I have some of them fat Mallory condensers that you can mount away from the heat.
Next time tell us what ignition and what carb your using.
I would suggest you try to get familiar with points and condensers. Check the gap. If points were fresh they probably wore the fiber and closed the gap. Is there any lube on the distributor cam for the point fiber block?. It doesn't take very much. I ran the same points and condenser on 12 that I ran on 6 changed the coil to 12 volts though.

Im learning now. I'm gonna go to Early Ford in San Dimas & buy the "Modern Style" upper plate, condeser, points for $27. The "Modern Style" should be more 12v compatable?

Internally resisted coil. I did try using a ballast resistor before the coil first time out on 12v, but it sputtered, i ditch it & it ran fine, until . . .

    I was told long ago-

90% of carburetor problems are ignition

A friend asked me to display the RPU at his bar during the rally. The place is called the Boars Nest. It is South of Lead towards Newcastle, Wyoming. It Is about two miles out of Lead on the left. Across the highway from the Boars Nest is Tarpper"s resident. He is a old hot rodder.

Where do you work at the rally? I usually go to Sturgis a couple of times during the event. There are a lot of bikes in town already. I usually wear an Indian Red baseball cap and dirty jeans and T-shirt.

Ever since Harley did away with the waste oil system the bikers got cleaner. Now most of them look like Corvette owners. I can spend hours at the Motor-Cycle Museum in Sturgis. The old bikes have a lever to advance the timing just like the old Fords.

Hey All, this weekend I was doing some "picking" at a local guys house and found a Vertex Scintilla Magneto that moves freely and is complete (to the cap)! I struck a deal for a bunch of stuff. It says NV4 on the tag, and the number on it is 500-1850-17. I was told it would work on a banger, VW, or MG. Does anyone run one of these? I am putting a 8ba, 39 trans and 40 banjo in my coupe, and am thinking about selling it, since I don;t see a near term need for it. Thoughts on price? I will try to post pics in the next day or so. Regards- Chris
