Looking to swap a late 8BA engine into my 37 convertible. Trying to research on what i need in order for this to fit and work properly. Since the 8ba motor is a '52 car motor it looks like I'll need a truck pan to clear the front crossmember and steering arm. Also seems there maybe a fan fitment problem since the 8ba is longer than the 21 stud. I heard some folks recommend a 59ab pulley, distibutor and fan setup. I know folks has swapped the later flatty into and earlier frame. What are the pitfalls and the points of install that I need to concentrate on? -Fryguy <!-- / message -->
Just looking for information from those who may have done this before, what issues they ran into, etc. . .
Mine is a bit different in that I started of with a top loader OD from an '86 F-150, now it's a T-5, but the pic shows the '52 motor in a '35 frame-should be real similar to yours. I added the little aluminum spacers under the pumps to match up with the stock '35 radiator. Other than that, it all fits fine. If you're using the stock trans, you'll need the circular truck ring bell and the truck pan too-which I used. RB
never done the swap, but if you change the fan etc you will need to change the cam as well I believe. also you will need a set of 8RT truck pumps (***uming these are ford car pumps on there) for the flat mounts on the 37 frame.
Yes, ok, I see I have to change the water pumps to truck pumps to retain the biscuit type flat mounts. I have the truck pan and the truck bell to mount the '37 trans. I have heard that with an 8ba I will lose the fan altogether as there is no room between the front of the engine and the radiator
did the wisbones need to be split for that T5 as im planning to put one behind a 303 olds in my 41....
