I have a set of rotoflo shocks [model 42].its hard to find any info on them. I did see somewhere that they were made with some sort of thick rubber compound inside that turns hard eventually. I also saw somewhere where someone said that there is some kind of silicone that can replace the rubber compound inside the shock but he didnt say what he used, Anybody have any ideas ?
Hello! Take out the stud and feel if the rubber inside is little soft and if it is so you can use them without any problem. I also have a set and i have drive with them this year and must say they works very whell. Here is other nice treads on Hamb i have get good tips from nice people .So you can read more about them there.
I have a couple sets, and have taken some apart. The goo inside is like a thick tar, but not quite as stickey. A lot like the adhesive ribbon that modern cars use when setting windshields. In fact, one fellow Rotoflo owner told me he has replaced the hardened original goo with some of the windshield setting ribbon stuff. A different Rotoflo owner gave me the leftover tub of silicone-type compound that he used to replace the goo in his shocks. It is the stuff used to make flexible molds when casting plastic items. I haven't used his method yet either, but will give it a try someday as he has built a few cars with these shocks and seems to know exactly what he's talking about.
Thanks guys I will take them apart shortly to investigate. They have been sitting on the work bench since I bought them and I am getting close to mounting some kind of shocks on my next project. I really havent decided if I want to run them or not,so they may be for sale some day. I will check in more often, and will let you know what I find. thanks again.
I just won a pair on ebay, man I know they're going to look good on my 27 roadster, geez, I hate spending money sometimes.
