Saw a '64 Ford Galaxy last weekend at a cruise-in that was 4sale. Looked at it close yesterday and bought it for my grandson. He's 20 and been in some trouble so I'm trying to get him an outside interest other than video games and booming b*** stereos. Anyhow the old girl is almost spotless; 2-door hardtop, (love that crease in the rear of the roof) white body with red interior. 289 with Ford-o-matic and 65K miles. Has factory skirts. Out the door for $6K. Any experience out there with the '64 vintage 289's? I did a search this morning on here and found several pictures of '64's but would like to see more if possible. I'm thinking wheels, pinners, lowered, side pipes and maybe a flaked roof. The existing paint is almost flawless so may leave the major color white for now. Thanks in advance! I did a search on here for
You mean Galaxie... The 289 is a great engine period, many parts interchange with 302's. Just like the SBC, there are differences and some things won't swap, but you could have something go wrong and get it fixed or parts at the Poop Boys in East Bum**** no problem.
Kudos to you Jim for expanding your grandson's hobbies and giving him an alternative place to release his energy. If it's the young man I met at the Wheelersburg cruise then I'm sure he really appreciates it. He seemed like a real nice person from the little I got to talk to him.
I know this is a '65, but same general profile. A great example of what not to do in terms of wheels! Yikes!!
I know, I know Goober but you know how 20 year olds are Do you remember back that far? I know I can't. I suggested he consider a set of supremes for it yesterday but he informed me that was prolly' not what he wanted to put on it. He loves the Merc so I guess I have to keep on him, but understand it is his car Yes John B that was him with the "Sticky Up" hair-do at the cruise. He's basically a good kid just needs more coaching from his Poppie! I also appreciate the spelling lesson and sorry if it created confusion.
do a search and see if you cant find some pix of tucks galixie, its preety sharp looking i think he posted some pix after he put the front clip back on just after back to the fifties tim
show 'im this (non-galaxie), and see if helps... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65217
Not a '64... she's her older sister, but thought I'd post a pic anyway. Not suggesting the 70's Lincoln Town Car wheels look great, but they work for a starving artist, they're round. Got a deep red 'flaked roof too.
Tim, I did deveral searches and found posts on the '64 Galaxies but none included pictures though the posts suggested the pictures were attached. I tried it with this computor (dial up at work) and at home on hi-speed but still got no pictures. Guess I need to post this problen on the "Questions" board. Sure would like to see a pic of Tucks' black one though and any others. Thanks for the reply
http://216.63.204.26/photo/list/_list.html Go here........ Lots of 64's My uncle had a 64 Galaxie 500 (427/425 4speed R car ). I always wanted it...
I'm 21 right now and find it hard to talk to the "kids" around my area that love there "dubs" (20+" rims) they have very little taste. Any way i own a 63 galaxie wagon that is a work horse with a little 260 V8, 289's little brother. Just this last week i have towed a 66 galaxie, model A, 47 gmc, and a 56 oldsmobile across town not to mention the countless long distance trips= around 4,000 miles with 22 miles to the gallon. All this from a car that i pulled out of a field in May. i just changed the oil, battery, spark plugs and adjusted the brakes then drove it home. Now that is "ford tuff" i hope your grandson enjoys his car because there some of the best built american iron out there.
Duece Roadster; thanks for the great link. To all other responders to this post I thank you as well. These pictures will help him make some decisions as to what he wants for a finished product!
I only wish I had a grandfather as cool as you when I first got into cars. I think it's a great thing that you're doing, and hopefully he will come around and see the potential in these cars, and old cars in general. -Aaron
blown49...kind of o/t, but remember if anything should go wrong mechanically, 63 and 64 289s are a different bellhousing boltpattern than the 65-68s are. the earlier are the same as the smaller 221 and are the 5 bolt, later being the 6 bolt bell. just saves time...i once spent 45 minutes trying to figure why they just "weren't lining up" lol...
