So I've found a few threads about this but just hoping that there's some new, possitive information that I haven't found. Have a 1932 Ford "Dearborn Duece" listed and have a buyer from Canada ready to take delivery. Problem is we did all the right things to ***le in Virginia by having the DMV inspector come and install a VIN plate and issue a clear VA ***le. The ***le reads "1932 Special Construction" instead of 1932 Ford. Again, I think I have the answer but hoping someone can give me some insight. What if I took it across myself? Could I say I'm going to a show, sell the car, and fly home? Are there any loopholes or a way to make this work?
Don't even think about it!!! If you can't legally export it to Canada then you'll waste a lot of time. A friend went through this with 2 ''Superforce Cobras'' that were seized and never returned. A legal nightmare. If the person from Canada really wants it, have them come down and ***le vehicle in their name in your state, then onus is on them! An original Ford ***le may have worked but these things are borderline. Good luck in whatever happens but remember border crossings are a privilege that once lost are near impossible to regain.
As you probably already know the Govt of Canada is very strict on "special Construction" vehicles. Kit Cars/Spec Constr vehicles must meet the Canadian Motor Vehicle Standards (CMVSS) new cars have to meet. The seller/ buyer will have to prove the vehicle does meet the CMVSS thru some sort of approved testing. Is this what you are trying to avoid? Check with Dearborn Deuce Manufacturing to see if their cars meet Canadian Safety Standards. I doubt they have anyway of proving their ch***is and body does. So, Good Luck.
You are probably hooped on this. Not only r you fighting Federal you are also fighting provincial laws. Our latest ones just to re***le a car in our province from another province would likely fail anything less than a couple of years old. Some stuff makes good sense but why fail a car if the trunk rubber doesn't seal properly (how do you define that?) All the rims have to match so no bigs and littles. You illumination light for your oil or water temp gauge has to light up the gage has to work properly, . So there are hundreds of items that will trigger a failure and not safety related either. About the only thing you have grace on is that the AC doesn't have to work.
You are making a mistake getting a ***le as you described for a Canadian buyer. Another suggestion would be have him pick up the car and take it over the border with a bill of sale, ( dont either one of you **** around on the purchase price on the bill of sale, this opens up a whole new set of problems) . He can state that it is a race car, and proceed to get a Canadian ownership do***ent after it is made road worthy and a Safety Certificate is issued. Its been done before.
what he said i have brought cars into canada as race cars , if you had a ***le that said 32 ford no problems . yes you can drive it into canada and new owner can come up with his own ***le or call it a you built have provincial inspection .done
