I had a 250 inline 6 all rebuilt, machined, balanced, and had a mild cam put in it. I bought custom cast iron headers, 4 barrel intake, holley carb, polished finned offenhauser valve cover, water pump, fuel pump, hei distributor all of it BRAND NEW. Plans changed and I don't have any use for it anymore. It's in the way and a big chunk of money doing nothing. I have $3,000 into it, is there anybody out there that might want it for anywhere near what I have into it? Is there a market out there for something like this? Or was I crazy to spend that much money on an engine like this?
there is a market for it but it's just not huge. best of luck, but most of the time, it is pretty tough to get your money back out of something like that. i know it's a shame but you might have to part it out to get the most out of it.
What do you consider "anywhere near what you have in to it"? I'd love to add another inline to my collection.
Somewhere around $2,500 would be great. I've got a high performance lightened flywheel too that goes with it.
It's still cheaper than getting a brand new 350 crate and getting all the bells and whistles... so I don't think it's TOO outlandish. But I'm certainly not going to be selling it by tomorrow. For someone looking for a perfect engine and needs it now, it would be a good find.
Go to www.inliners.org and post it there as well. As for the price.. you how much it cost to build it and anyone getting ready to have it done likely knows what it will cost as well. If your price is in the ball park you'll hear from someone. Paul
At the time, you were not thinking of the possibility of resale. Now, you are in a bit of a hard spot. times are real tough right now, and will be getting far worse IMO.
If it makes you feel any better I have spent that much on my 250. It's the cost to do them up right, Pistons, Cams, Valves, Machineing and all other performance parts. If somebody comes along and prices out doing it themselves or buying yours you may get some action on it, but I can attest that $3000 is the bill I have paid thus far as well for mine!
t has a Comp Cams High Energy 252H part#: 61-232-4 0.04 bore Rebuilt head, stiffer springs. Was rebuilt by Chuck Arneson at Arneson Motor and Machine in Brookings, OR.
If you build it they will come. That motor is seeing a surge in old skool rods right now. Also great engine for 63-64 cars and pickups, goes right in where 230 was. Just put it out there on as many sites as you can, someone will want it.
The thread's a month or so old but if it hasn't sold yet it might help to do an exact list including parts numbers of the pieces you have in it. I've been pricing out goodies for my 292 and just what you have listed for the outside of the engine gets up there in $$$$ but guys still want to know exactly what brand and part number for the pieces in and on an engine like that. I'm still thinking that what a guy feels is a pretty honest and high offer might appear as a low ball offer to you though.
I would be interested in parts from the motor possibly but do you have pictures of the engine and what you put into it? Or are you dead set on selling the whole thing at once? I'm working on a 292 for my 53 chevy car. thanks!
