I was recently in Vancouver, WA buying another car and stopped into this place. It's called Benny's Hot Rod Cafe. Pretty good food and lots of legit stuff hanging on the wall. The little old dude in the photo is Bruce Geisler- an old Bonneville racer who holds numerous ***les with a '53 Stude. Was cool just to listen in awe to the stories. The hood from his car is hanging on the wall. I agree that most of these places are pretty corny, but this one took me by surprise when I walked in.
It'd be tough but I think I could tolerate a restaurant like the one in this video/song by the Jive Aces : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXvJ8UquYoo
What about "Jack Rabbit Slims" in Pulp Fiction was that place for real or just a Hollywood prop? Looked real with the slot car track. I would love to go there, even with the phony waiter (Buddy Holly) and waitresses Marylin Monroe.
Beauishere nailed it. Late 1950s hang-out. a few booths, two pinball machines, a couple stools at the counter, jukebox with current songs... ... hamburgers, Coke.... 32 roadster out front with clear red ignition wires on the flathead (not a display car, he just drove in for a burger)... no displays on the walls, just a few high school friends meeting here.... Memories from the late 1950s........
