I had a set of Moon Disc on my 1930 Model A back in the mid 70's,,I liked them because I felt they gave the truck a hot rod look,,and they were a lot cheaper than mags. HRP

I tend to like the smoother, uncomplicated ones for rods (racy / streamlined), and the more intricate designs on show rods for most part. If at all possible, I like the wheel widths or front spacing to be the same, so the covers have the same relationship to the outer rim and tires. Having the front caps stick out in the air a little, while the rears are recessed a little deeper kinda looks odd to me somehow. I've never owned a car with full covers, and would probably find it hard to get just the right set of wheels / tires / covers, so many choices. Gary

Can't believe I've never seen this thread before since I love full caps on hot rods (plus I tend to collect cool hubcaps when I can find them cheap;)).

Do you ever have them both on, you know one set on one side the others on the other side, just to see who's paying attention. ;)

Great thread. Certainly dispels the no caps/no white walls argument. The most basic aspect is wheels and stance. If those are wrong nothing else will make a car look right. The simplest and cheapest way to freshen the look of a car you have had a while is to change the look of the wheels, tires,or caps. A lot of us do it often. My '53 has been through 7 changes in the last 10 years.

Wow, I don't know how I missed this post for the past four years. I've always felt if your gonna go a little custom on a hot rod and use whitewalls you pretty much need the full wheel covers to seal the deal. Some of the pictures on just the first page of this thread prove that. Always reminds me of my youth seeing hot rods with full covers. Nice.

Cool thread. I had a set about 15 years ago, they were a full dish chrome hubcap with dice (5?) stamped in them. I wish I wouldn't have sold them. I saw some in a 58 or 59 JC Whitney catalog, but haven't seen any like it since.

  27. I've been playing with caps lately. Here's 60 Electra caps on my 53.

I started a similar thread about full hub caps about a year ago, called "Traditional Wheels, Part 4 (Full Wheel Covers)". You can find it here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=767836

Although that thread linked to this one, there hasn't been one in the other direction. You'll find a number of full hubcaps illustrated over there that are not shown here.
