i have always wanted an all ford hot rod so i sold my 89 foxbody drag car ch***is and bought this 47 merc coupe. These pics are after installing a heavy duty 4 link rear from speedway and lucky7 4in drop axle. More pics and details coming
The specs are as follows... engine dss racing 331 stroker sbf afr 185 alum. heads anderson n71 cam put down 483rwhp and 609rwtq on 150 shot of nos trans...tremec old original tko 5spd frnt...lucky7 4in drop axle rear speedway heavy duty 4link with qa1 adj. coilovers explorer disc brake rear with 4.10s and 31spl axles wheels...torque thrust 15x6 with bfgs 235 60 frt and 275 60 rear more to come
Here's some pics of the 4link setup, my motor sittin in and the frame after we rolled it out from under the body i dont have a lift so we jacked the body up with floorjacks and put it on sawhorses
Here's some pics of the coilover mounts xframe boxed in and the body... I am no welder or fab man but i'm learning and I'm trying to do all sheetmetal and fabbing myself so far its worked out great with a grinder ,lincoln 125 flux core welder and 3 fans god its humid in alabama
Well the frame is ready to sandblast i started this project 5 weeks ago and hope to have it done before rod run in pigeonforge 1st weekend in sept time is runnin out
took the frame to be blasted and etched in primer...the plans are to paint the frame with an acrylic iroc red paint from an old resto project me and my dad done 12 yrs ago and paint the body blue flame metallic with a satin clear...kinda like the pic below
Im really curious to see how the front brackets for the 4link are welded to the frame. Id rather see them welded half wrapped around a crossmember. And I dont see any panhard bar brackets. Without it being triangulated you are gonna need one.
the rear panhard bracket i'm going to use is the factory one and its still bolted on you just cant see it in the pics and the front 4 link brackets are not complete yet when i get the frame back today i'll take some pics of it lol i know it looks like their just stuck on but there not...
got the frame from being blasted so its primed and ready to paint gonna clean the rearend and prime it tomorrow
Love those old Ford and Merc Coupes. Somewhere in my shed I have one of each. Thanks for the photos and info. I'm not far away.
thx for all the positive comments guys glad yall like the build...heres some pics of some parts that i thought would be cool on it center console from a 62-63 falcon tailights from a 66 pontiac tempest and the flatty is the engine and three spd ****** with a sparkomatic floorshifter i pulled out of the car yes it did run we drove it in the shop i just wanted more power i do plan to use it in the near future. and one is a pic of the front doorjam i had to cut it out a weld some patches in it turned out pretty good for my first sheetmetal work
Hopefully gonna try and... install new 4.10s, clutchpack, and new brakes on the 8.8 explorer rear paint the rear end run the hard brake lines on the frame install front axle install rear axle paint bottom of body and sit body on the frame by this sat. lots of work but maybe me and my dad can handle it
Well progress has been slower than expected, work, money and time... you know the usual. Here are some pics of the rolling frame almost ready to sit the body on. Also some parts added to the list Rebel 21 circuit wiring harness Ron francis efi harness for sbf Wilwood dual master cyl. (manual disc brakes) foxbody mustang power rack and pinion dynamat for the floor, doors and roof
finally got the body sit on not bolted down though still got to paint the firewall...dont know what color yet. got just about everything to finish hope to get to work on it this weekend..
thx...though im havin trouble deciding on carb or efi...i really wanted a carb setup for the ease of setup and less clutter but all of my efi stuff is tuned and works really well with the nitrous kit so idk i guess whatever i'm feeeling like the day i install it! i still havnt decided on a color i am between a flat blue flame metal. or a dark gray or graphite..
