Anyone here replace their clock movement with a quartz unit? Would the little dealies from a crafts store work or would I have to buy a kit? Thanks!

The ones from the craft store will need a battery change from time to time, and may not fit in your housing. I would like to do the conversion on the clock in my '57, but I disconnect the battery when the car is parked so it kinda seems like a waste!
Keep us informed on your clock project.

There are several sizes of "craft" clocks with short and long shafts. Also variotions of hands, plastic, metal etc. Likely you can find one that will work and maybe even use the hands from your old one with some imagination.

When we made the 40 Ford clocks at Specialized Auto Parts years ago, the fat little teardrop hands were a problem until our maker made the minute hand foldable, then we had it! Sold a thousand and more of those clocks.

KoolKat, I like the idea of a battery because I too disconnect my battery! I've been searching here and Chevy talk. I found one thread where someone said the movement would need a new battery once a year. I could live with that. I think constantly winding is more annoying than having to change a battery.

I used a AA battery powered clock for my 46 chevy.change battery every couple of years, works great, had to adapt it a little to fit, but was a fun litle project that works.

  6. Check out clocksandguages.com. they have kits to convert nearly all borg movements or do the work for you. I've even used kits from jc whitney.
