Nice Fab work ! My tastes being different , still enjoying how you are tackling your suspension/steering dynamics ...

 

Ive had my heart set on building a roadster for a long time. Everything about this car is top quality and kickass! Now if i can just find me one.

 

Damnit I need to get back on this thing. I rebuilt a jet ski, painted my daily, working tons of OT, wedding planning, etc. Life has been in the way. I think I feel a week long cold coming on "cough cough". I better call in sick now...

 

Alright, my hiatus is finally over. Time to get building again. So I last left off with some concerns about my rear suspension. I made this thread "Will my rear suspension work?"http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=714537 and got a few ideas. I began with these this morning...


I decided to chop off the forged ends, replace them with bushings and convert my rear suspension to a 3 link. Now I've got this.

A word to the wise; the bushing kits that speedway sells with a 1.117 ID...There isn't a pipe or a tubing on the planet that will accommodate them. I had to buy some super thick DOM and I'll machine them to fit the bushings on Monday while at work. Its not much but is sure does feel good to get rolling again!

 

Further work on the rear suspension re-do

 

Nice work - love the inventiveness.
I'm a litle concerned about how low your steering tie rod and drag link sit though - one decent cat's eye or something in the road and you might have an issue.

Thanks bud! The links aren't as low as they appear. I took the picks from a goofy angle. The frame and radiator shell are the lowest points at about 4-1/2". Hopefully everything performs well when it's time for the shake down run.

Great looking car, and amazing fab work!

 

2 of the 3 links installed. I can actually feel the spring moving now. Much better. Once I get the driveline hoop and third link installed I'll be able to get my pinion angle and ride height adjusted correctly. Hooray !

 

Staying busy while I wait for some parts. Working on restoring the inner deck lid structure before I make the skin

 

great metal-work! i was convinced everything was CNC-ed until i saw how you were doing it!

 

Thanks! If I can get my ass in gear, maybe i'll take it to next years Christmas party.

 

Trying to get a handle on the TIG and file method while rebuilding the deck lid structure.

To my suprise I ended up with a really good fusion and great penetration.

What I initially built as a ladder bar, is now a 3 link.


The links are made from some wishbone material I had. Chassis cross members and drive shaft hoop are 1-3/4" DOM.

Got the shock mounts made up, and shocks installed yesterday. The mounts are ugly as sin, but they will get a little more detail love later.




Today I started working on another piece of the floor. It was my first time working with AK steel. Neat stuff!



Some rolling, tipping and hammering. Its starting to look like something.
Probably the most massive tunnel I've ever seen to get around that 3 link and driveshaft hoop.

 

Very nice. I'm impressed. Looks like you have access to some nice equipment to make great parts and the skill to pull it off.
