You don't want that type, it has no bearing properties and will wallow out around the bolt holes. You want spherical rod ends or Ford tie rod ends. The one you pictured is for use like on the front of hairpins where there is no movement.

If you are talking about using these in two places per side where the hairpin mounts to the rear end itself, then they are fine for that application.

  4. Those ARE the type you want on the axle bracket. The spherical end is used on the frame bracket. I get mine from Speedway Dyna

Yeah, I read his question to mean could he use them on the front of the hairpins where they move up and down, then I realized he meant on the axle itself where they stay rigid. Yes, those are the type you want and I get mine from Speedway. Here they are on my Son's T bucket.

Sorry for the midread of your question.

Don, what is the bolt diameter on those clevises? I'm using those on the ladder bars on my Model A and the bolt is 3/8". Wondering if that's large enough?

I've heard that Tractor Supply carries things like this but have never confirmed it. I think you will find out before the build is over you might have to do some 1-800 shopping, it just saves so much time sometimes.

Bob, as long as you use good Grade 8 bolts you will be fine, that is what I am running.

  10. You could drill them out to 1/2" with no worries, but I've done many rods with them as 3/8".

    Did you check mcmaster-carr???

  12. You can also get them from Pete & Jake's already drilled to 1/2" for rear bar use.

Thanks. Most seem to use a 3/8" bolt, but was just wondering what the experience of others was. As you say, I could drill them for a larger bolt, but with the clevises I have any strength that could be gained by a larger bolt would be lost to the reduction in material around the clevis hole.
