Pete Aardema, Kevin Braun and Scott Goetz set two records this weekend at Bonneville. 236 or so on fuel and 238 or so on gas, with a best /final pass of 240+change!! Congrats to them, and thanks to Pete for being my friend and including me on his team. Go full screen and turn up the sound! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5np5XvEaBPI&feature=plcp
Wow. Interesting what is from the Model A beyond the block, I am guessing not much. Sure doesn't sound like my model A. Thanks for posting the link to the video. Neal
I am proud to say these guys are from Tempe Arizona I have a friend who help them out with part of the turbo. Competition Engineering in Phoenix way to go guys!!!! Frenchy
Wow, thanks for all the replys. It's a Model A block with a billet Aardema/Braun DOHC, three valve head, made in three layers to accomodate water jackets. Turbo at 10 PSI and race gas. I'll try to get Kevin to post up some pictures of the engine during fabrication...yes, fabrication, all done at Pete's home shop in So Cal.
Pete Aardema is a bad ass! Remember his rear engined coupe? He could teach most of us a thing or two about hot rods, machining and imagination. Congratulations!!
does the car have a motor that "stan vermile" helped build ? he has a motor that set 2 records , as this one did ............... thanks .. steve
Great video. What was going on with what looked like some panels seemingly bulging out as the speed increased? You could see them also still out at the end. I love these kind of videos.
Wish we could run with our arm restraints that loose...........................no I don't, hands outside the cage is not good. That said, I have always loved what Pete does with his crazy designs!
Just a little math for ya here. If it's a 90 year old block that would put it at 1922 making it a model "T" block since they didn't start building the model A until 1928.
Ha ha, that was the 200MPH tape that was holding the Gopro to the tail fin. Only rated to 200! Almost lost the camera, you can see it moving up the fin, changing the horizon line. It actually caused a neat effect as it curved the the horizon line. Thats why I used it.
Yeah, Pete's certainly a thinker. His creations over the years have always fascinated and sometimes confounded. He dislikes pushrods and ring and pinions, although he used a R and P in this contraption in his "homemade" quickchange. This car is front wheel drive by the way!
Fixed, you got me there! I was in a hurry when I filled out the stuff on the youtube info page. Sorry. It IS a Model A block, but I'm not sure what year exactly.
No, this engine was built entirely by Pete and Kevin in Pete's very well equipped home shop. It's worth a thread of it's own!
By the way, Pete and his team have a total of 16 records with his various Model A based creations. This is his 5th Model A based engine. He set a few records with a Model A Roadster (the car belongs to Russ Eyres) before he, Kevin and Scott built the streamliner.
