I have been hearing some good things about Squeegs Epoxy Primer. I read somewhere on hear that you can spray 2-3 coats of this stuff over body filler that has been sanded with 36 Grit, then block it with 80 grit, then apply 2-3 more coats and sand with 400-600 and be rady to spray WITHOUT ANY FUTURE sand scratch issues. It this correct? Has anybody done this or is anyone doing this? Does it work? Looking for honest answers and info. please.

    Thanks in advance,

    John

I don't have an answer for spray and sand on this product, but Doug is one of my Major clients. Everything he sends me to louver is shot in this stuff, and he is super picky about prep and has forbid me to ever sand one of his projects... The rub is this: normally, there would be no way I would ever punch louvers through coating of any sort, PRIMER especially. What happens is as the louver die stretches the metal, the coating doesn't stretch, then fractures and makes a mess that has to be stripped. Doug insisted that I louver through his primer, I said no guarrenties... I'll be damned if it didn't stretch and still tooth to the material! I have never seen another substrate that has held as fast to a metal as his stuff, EVER! Amazing stuff if you ask me!

Like I said before, I can't answer you questions as far as fill and such, but that little bit of magic amazed the Hell out of me!

  3. I just read a couple paint threads that had guys raving about this stuff. Search Squeegs

  4. 36, prime, 80, reprime, then 4-600??? Stuff must be magic!!
80 to 400 is a BIG jump in regard to sand scratch filling/swelling.
    I'm skeptical. ;)

Wow, I never shoot primer over anything more co**** than 200 grit scratches.
Thanks for posting this up. I'm going to check into this.

every epoxy Ive ever sanded has gunked up the sandpaper.. How long has it been around? I'd be worried it would shrink back over time.

Hell, it's been out for about 6 or 7 years now that I'm aware of. I know So-Cal Phoenix sells quite a bit of it, and I dare say most of the upline shops around here use it. as Far as shrink back, I'd throw that under the heading of flexibility that I was talking a bout earlier. I have never seen a material adhere like that and move with the metal. but to be sure guys, I'm not a painter.

I sprayed my car with this ACME 2K HS primer I got from NAPA. I sprayed it right on top of my epoxy, under the epoxy was filler finished in 80grit. The high build primer filled ALOT, sanded that down with 220grit and top coated. No problems at all. Definately worth the money.

A few of the paint manufacturers have high build epoxys now we use PPG CRE. The stuff has great fill and sands easier then most urethane primers shrinkage isn't as big of an issue with epoxy like it is with high build urethane and polyester primers.Haven't used the stuff offered by Squeegs sounds like it's comparable to what I've used.

Your not ready for primer at 80 grit on bondo no matter the primer, in fact you would be wasting it.Why prime up 80 grit scratches when you still got to go 180 or 220 with a block and most of it is sanded back off except the 80 grit scratches which will be full of primer but will swell up later. Go as fine as 220 before you prime, then you get the full effect of the primers filling ability. You will be filling low spots instead of pinholes and scratches, less buildup, better paintjob.

I put this stuff to the test. In the 35 years I have been in the refinish industry this is by far the best high build primer I have ever used. Nice build, EASY sanding, NO sealer required. NO shrinkage, NO die-back. I even took an old hood, dented it, applied filler, knocked it down with 36G then quickly with 80G. Primed four coates, blocked with 180, two coats primer, 400 wet sand, painted with silver BC/CC no scratches. Has been sitting out in weather with no change in appearance. Great stuff. Will never use anything else!
