Man did i just make a score, I was at the flea market in Wellsfleet on cape cod yesterday and i picked up the april 29,1957 Life for $5!!!! I'm a happy camper now!! JimV
Got mine signed by the man himself last year. Also got a couple of pics with him. Got the mag and the pics framed together. Makes for a great conversation piece. Norms a real down to earth guy.
FYI, if you can't find that issue ... when Norm does his public appearances you can buy a poster that's a reproduction of the famous Life pic, with the Life logo across the top for $10, which includes Norm's personalized autograph for you. Agree he's quite the cool guy and a real contributor to the world of rodding.
As long as you're collecting 'em, there are a few other Grabowski Kookie car covers to look for (the Life image isn't the actual cover - it's the composite poster Norm has available):
One of the local rodders is friend of Norm's, he had a party a couple of years back that Norm drove up to. I was off to college at the time, but my Dad and everyone else had a hell of a good time! Attached is a picture of Norm and his truck at the guy's house, and also the Life mag poster personalized to my Dad by Norm. Very cool.
April 1957 Life Magazine taken at Bob's Big Boy Read about it here In 2000 on the Friday before the LA Roadster show the car was parked in the same spot, with Norm right there with it.
I picked up a copy of that RODS mag at an antique store in Folsom a few years ago. They must have printed a mess of them, or I got lucky.
If ya find a side shot of Norm's car, check out the four bar front suspension! They don't look exactly paralel. More like their angles aim towards and converge at the rear axle.
