i have most of the factory radios in my cars but none of them work. so i got a few hidden in the glove boxs.and those are old cassettes with am/fm.those are getting harder to find. i had a couple underdash 8 tracks but they finally quit on me.i have bunches of my rockin tapes but noway to play them so i have to use my cassettes.remember when you had to keep a empty book of matches to roll up and shove under your 8 track to keep the tape from dragging.

2. Hey buddy
What you want is 2 speakers and a reverb unit.

In the merc when we are in highschool the wife and I had a reverb and an FM conversion on the original town and country radio. We could get the local underground station. Nothin' like cruisin to the music that was outlawed and the reverb puncin it out like no tomorrow. Good times.

Long time, no see!

Where do you find that stuff? It seems like hen's teeth to me, but I'll admit I haven't spent a lot of time searching- I'm not one of those music addicts.

4. yea good to know that we are both still alive.

I haven't had a reverb in my hand in probably 30 or 40 years, but I do see them once in a while in the classifieds. You may still be able to buy one new from radio shack as well as the FM conversion kit. But they probably won't have one on the shelf.

5. 1948 Philco under dash unit that I gutted to install a mini CD player and speakers.
I have a 1946 Magic Tone wooden radio that I gutted and installed two speakers to use outside of the vehicle.

Stereo? What is stereo? You must mean Hi Fi.

7. I still have the original radio delete plate and chrome filler plugs for my 1958 Apache.

Indeed. I just haven't been around much. Life has been crazy over the last little bit.

I'm not ready to jump on anything just yet, but I'll start to do some snooping...

This is what's in mine .. 51 Shoebox. Not sure if its the original, I haven't had a chance to see if it works, but either way, it is going to stay in there.

Yep in my 63 . Still works great, I put a cd player under the seat . And added a dual voice coil speaker from hidden audio in the factory hole in rear shelf and 2 5" rounds on plates under the dash. So I can have my driving music

I still have the '30's Philco Transitone in my coupe. It cost a bunch to have the capacitors and some other parts replaced, but it still has it's mechanical vibrator and original speaker. It was worth every cent to see people's reaction when I turn it on and it hums for thirty seconds before the sound starts. By the way, the factory antenna is the chicken wire beneath the roof insert. HA!

NO ... have you ever priced a correct Ford installed radio for a 1932 Ford ??

You could not listen to it anyway in the roadster. Wind noise would drown out the music.

.

14. I've got the factory AM radios in both my Corvairs with an FM converter, it works pretty good. My 53 Stud truck has never had one. My 47 ford has the radio in the hole, but those wired aren't hooked up yet.

15. On my 56 T Bird I left the stock radio in the dash - nothing else would look right. I then used a Custom Autosound Hidden stereo for killer tunes. The 32 doesn't have or need a radio - I'd much rather listen to that sweet SBF runnin down the road. The 29 has one hidden in the seat base, but I haven't used it in years.

16. AM/FM radio out of a Corvair in my 32 3-window. Sounds good if all the windows are rolled upbut thats about it. Looks cool though.

Exactly. "Car STEREO" was "invented" by MadMan (Earl) Muntz in the early sixties, and he was inducted into the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame for that achievement. It was a 4-track continuous loop STEREO tape player. If you are listening to AM radio, you are NOT listening to stereo, as the original poster asked... :)

I don't know what to put in the '55. It has radio delete, but I need something in the glovebox. Got a pair of 6x9s for the rear pkg shelf, but do I cut that??!?

I usually prefer Kenwood or Pioneer....any suggestions? Crutchfield as a source?

from Texas .

I have a box of old radios. Why do you ask? Wanna buy mine?

20. I was excited when I found the radio in a box inside my '48.
Turns out it was for a 1951-52.

My radio hole was hacked so I made a delete and installed an 8-track....

sort of..

You might already know this, but Studebaker offered radios for all of the trucks. Just not may bought them as the trucks are so loud generally it wasn't worth it. The kits and proper radios are out there if you look around and not impossible to find, including the ones for the 2R's like yours. A few NOS even pop up every now and then. They can be a little pricey though, at least relative to typical Studebaker pricing.

If we still had a decent am station I would have left most of my pre70s vehicles alone,I love the sound coming from a tube radio but I need tune when driving instead of hearing someone talking so everything I own has a modern sound system.

I can only find one decent FM radio station in Houston. AM radio is non-existent. Except for Paul Berlin, AM 700 on Saturdays from 6 to 8 pm.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

BUT, I did have a tap added and I can run a MP3 player through the tube radio in my ’55. Original speaker sounds really good and the glow is perfect.

25. I just ripped the original radio out of my '50. It has nice plastic buttons and 3 of the 4 knobs. No idea if it works, but I figure it will bring a few bucks. I'm changing the dash to something else anyways and figured if I gut it it will make wiring easier.

I have my original AM in the dash, it lights up with my dash lights and looks real pretty. But...my tunes come from a hidden CD player mounted under my front seat.

27. I was just thinking my original stereo as in the first one I owned was a 4 track pioneer. I wish I still had it for nostalgic reasons. :D

My '63 Pontiac Grand Prix still has the factory AM/FM hooked to the factory speakers, but all I get is static. The satellite stereo is hidden in the glove compartment.

I picked up another dash for my 55 ford to modify for a modern stereo,I have the modern stereo mounted under the seat but is a pain to set the stations and other functions. If the original radio still worked and I kept it 6 volts I would get one of those kits to hook up a MP3 player to it but its 12 volts now,if I ever get the urge to go back to original I can unwrap the original dash and install it but I am liking the modern car audio too much to go back in time.
