Stray Kat Kustoms will be hosting the 4th annual Starliner on September 7 & 8, 2012
    at the Kansas Aviation Museum.

This is the perfect place to host the show because aviation is a big part of Wichita and
it is a kool back drop for the show. The building was built in the early ‘40s and is a kool
    art deco structure.

Please go to their web site below to checkout the museum.

The show will begin on Friday (09/07/12) and we will be doing a Garage Krawl to visit some
Of the koolest Hot Rod and Kustom shops in the Wichita area. We will be
visiting some of the guys that are keeping Kustoms and Hot Rods a rolling.

Saturday we will be at the Kansas Aviation Museum. This is the perfect place to host the
show because aviation is a big part of Wichita and it is a kool back drop for the show. The
building was built in the early ‘40s and is a kool art deco structure. We will be parking a****
the planes which will make a kool photo op.

    Why Wichita?

1981 was the first year that I really started doing the car show thing. My third show was
the Kustom Kemps of America’s Lead Sled Spectacular in Wichita. We drove up early
Saturday morning and we were planning on spending the night at the host hotel but
because I was only 18, they would not let me check in to my room. Not knowing anyone
there, we just hung out in the parking lot at the hotel. We stayed as long as we could and
then drove the three hours back home. Even though it was only for one day we had a
blast! I had only seen one chopped Mercury before and it was at an indoor car show at
the Starbird show in Tulsa. This was the first time I got to see a Mercurys and kustoms in
motion. They are kool sitting still but when you get to experience them driving around town,
whoa, look out. Watching a Kustom a cruising is a whole different experience.

That weekend I was introduced to the important role that Wichita played in the Kustom
and Hot Rod history. Can you imagine how kool it would have been to see Dave Stucky
crusing Douglas in the Little Koffin. I love to hear the stories of those days.

My late 50’s experience didn’t really start until the early 80s. Kustoms like Hub Harness
’59 El Camino, Doug Reeds ’50 Olds “aka Toad” and Johnny Hammond’s timeless ’58 Chevy
Impala. I know that I’m leaving some of the kustoms that started it for me out but what
a list. These guys introduced me to kustoms and that kool Wichita Style. The Kool thing
is they are still kruzing the streets today.

If you look at the mild kustoms above they're all about the profile.

Wouldn’t it have been kool to live in Wichita when, Starbird, Cushenberrry, Stucky, Farner,
Eldon ***us and Carl Green were building some wild kustoms and kruzing the streets. Since
that day Wichita has not slowed down. Guys are still building them today and still doing their
part keeping the Kustom and Hot Rods alive in Wichita. I’ve been blessed over the years to
build relationships with a lot of koool people in the area and felt like Wichita should host a
Kustom and Hot Rod event. Like every other town in the USA they’re too many car shows
but I feel like they’re not enough kool ones. Wichita has a kool show in the Delano district
but other then that one, not another show for the Kustom and Hot Rod enthuists.

The guys that I mentioned above influenced my foundation on what is kool and I’m very
thankful that I was exposed to this legendary Wichita style. Today we have guys in the
area (Jeff Meyers to name one) that are building kool Kustoms and Hot Rods that are influencing
the younger crowd. I want to spot light some of the legendary builders and show them
what they started years ago is still alive today and make sure that Kool will never go out
    of style.

If you have any questions just let me know. If I don't know the answer, I'll ask Jack...

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Registration will starts at 8:00 and will run until 4:00. $20 entry fee before Sep. 4
if you register the day of the show it will be $25.

For the public, the show will start at 10:00.100% of the gate and concession
goes to the Kansas Aviation Museum. They charge their normal admission: $8.00
Adults, $7.00, seniors, $6.00 Ages 4-12 and three and under free. 100% of the gate
and concession goes to the Museum. This is one of their only fund raisers for the
year. They went through a tornado earlier this year and even though the all of the
damage was repaired they still have some other stuff they would like to get finished.
Hopefully we can help them out.

    Happy Trails, Mick

Show is really coming together; Talk to Big Rich from the Lonely Knights, their club will
be driving in Thursday. John Tretten (Paso John) from Minnesota and Dan Cuellar from
California will also be in there Thursday. This is looking like the old Ft. Smith days...

Just got off of the the phone with Gary Meyers, the Vibrasonic will be at the Starliner.
Be sure to checkout the new issue of Car Kulture Deluxe, the Vibrasonic is on the cover
and a kool feature. (Will be on the shelf Sept 4)

Thanks Tammy ***us for bringing it out.

    Stay tune for more....

    Happy Trails, Mick

    I'm in love...

That is the original color for my '58 and I was going to paint it a different color (may still), man that makes me pause and think. What a great looking color on that car.

  13. The Merc and I will be there this year. I just have to survive the Invasion this weekend. Maybe I can find my hubcap I lost on the way to the spectacular.

If I had a '58 This is the color I would paint it. Johnny Hammond is a legend.

Kool, glad your gonna make it up. I forgot about your cap, I'll keep an eye open for it.
Have a safe trip this weekend.

Woohoo!! Got the tires for the wagon in from Diamondback! I guess I'll take the wagon instead of the Camaro to a "KUSTOM" show! LOL! Didn't want to possibly be shunned by any "traditional nazis" and have to park it next to a Camry in the parking lot!! LOL.
Not that you'd ever do that Mick, but I don't know about some of them other knuckle draggers you hang around with!!

Thanks for all the effort you and the rest of the crew put in on the Starliner Mick. I've been to the last three years and they've all been great but this one was my favorite so far. Great weekend! Looking forward to seeing you all for the Rumble!

Mick - again the show and garage crawl combination were an incredible success and a lot of fun to be a part of. You and your gang are absolutely the best at creating an interesting and entertaining event and making everyone feel welcome. Both Mike and A.J. couldn't get over how nice everyone was and how much they enjoyed it. The quality and quan***y of cars was better than ever. I will start my photo thread and start rolling out images tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again for everything and all the effort you all put in to make this such a smashing must attend event.

Mick, you've definitely outdone yourself this time. You and the crew have just put on the best show that we've been to all year, all of you definitely deserve a pat on the back. Kaleb is still talking about it and can't wait til next year. Once again, thanks for letting us tag along, and will keep doing so as long as we don't wear out our welcome. Just one more "family reunion/block party" under your belt!

Thanks guys for all of the kind words. The Kats work hard trying to get the show to be a
laid back event. We are in love with Wichita and all of the kool Kustom history that is
in the town. The Kansas Aviation Museum is awesome to work with and makes a kool
back drop for a family to enjoy. As long as we are having fun we plan on being at the
    museum for a while...

    Happy Trails, Mick
