Getting too old to wrassle this steering any more. I'm looking at unisteer power rack and the borgeson power steering box. Anyone have any opinions on the way to go? My understanding is the rack will increase turning radius.

I think I'd go with the Borgeson, it's cheaper and you're not re-engineering your steering system...

I was lucky enough to find a factory P/S for my 55. They leak some, but work very well. The rack is a waste of time and money. The Borgeson looks good to me.

I installed a unisteer on a 55 and the braket was off by 3/4 to an inch. I first thought the frame was tweekrd but my friend had just torn down his 56 to do a rotissery resto on it so i brought it over to see if it fit his frame and it had the same results... I don't know much about Borgeson but it has to be better.

Thanks, sounds like Borgeson is the way to go.

I would suggest joining the 52-59 Ford Owner's Social Group- lots of great info there and almost 1000 strong.

I just installed a Borgeson in a '53 Ford last week. I shortened the stock column (easy if you have an auto. trans. but a little more work if you have a stick and want to use the orig. shift linkage). It works great! The owner hasn't stopped grinning since he picked it up.

Thanks everyone. I was a little concerned about shortening the steering.

I never heard of the 52-59Ford owners social group. Will check it out. Interesting choice of years.

This project has turned out to be more involved than I expected. When its complete I plan to post a step by step so anyone doing this wont run into all the surprises I did.
