you should shoot them the finger when they come back through. Something tells me they would want to stop and chat then....

seriously though I would like to hear their side as well. If they were just being *****s then that makes them no different than most of the gold chainers out there....

    Trey -
I saw your car at WyoTech in '04. It was very cool then. If I remember you have some sweet aluminum bomber type seats and lots of really nice workmanship. It's hard not to let jerks like that spoil your day but maybe they just bought their cars trying to buy a lifestyle.

    Don't sweat it.

Sad but true...lots of ***holes are trying to be something they never were to begin with. Looking at old pictures and leaving a car in primer doesn't make you traditional. Makes you a wannabe. Seems like that's the case at some level here.

I'll try to keep this one short...

While at a Packard meet once a guy kept hammering me about the value of the car I was showing. I politely said, "you can ask the owner...I restored the car and he'll be back shortly...go ahead and enjoy it". After looking it over he retuned and said "wow how many hours does something like that take?" He was getting on my nerves and I somehow knew where he was going with this. I said "about 3500 hrs in that one..." "3500 HOURS!? I dare say, wouldn't that pay for a few college educations!?" My response was "**** yeah...it paid for mine!" I got the desired response...he left.

Doesn't matter where you go there's always someone better, faster, got more T-shirts, **** em. Yer car is way kool bro...let em eat burnt rubber.

as for myself, when i jump into any hot rod the at***ude goes out the window. 1 hour or 6 hours down the road, it doesn't matter. it's supposed to be fun. it's my time to forget a lot and just cruise. if you're not having fun, "dont do it". lucky *******s should be smiles ear to ear for getting to drive across country and a vacation like that. i'm lucky to get 2 days off.

Next time you see them tell them they have nice RAT RODS and that you just saw one on tv that looked just like their car but it was a dodge and it was pink.... then flip them a big **** YOU...

People do this **** to me all the time even HAMBERS do it sometimes at some of the car shows. Usually I think its because my cuffs aren't rolled up high and my hair isn't greazy enough. And unfortunately my car is still flat back. Maybe when I paint it shiny I'll get a different response.

I will say this though most hambers are pretty cool to talk to. Just some when your in person act to cool for school.

    Sorry for the rant.....

When we won our trip to the US 15 years ago, we were lucky enough to be in Orlando on night they held the cruise at Old Town. That day my wife, son & I went to Garlit's museum, and happened to come across some rodders travelling together in the same direction as us. When we got back to the hotel, I took the hire car back, and had to walk back past Old Town and the cars were lined up outside waitong to get in. I got talking to a guy in a 36 3 window who we had seen earlier. Really nice guy, and he introduced me to his mates. Thankfully, I didn't get the reception you did, because it would have been an absolute bummer to cop that sort of **** so far from home from people you think have a similar interest to you. All the same would have liked to have met a few more guys like those I did elsewhere on our trip.

    Hey..
Hear where you come'n from... Don't let it bother ya... Your car made theirs look bad.. Think we all been there... done that.

Few years ago I went to a two day event in (?).. Never been there before.. I shows up with the "coupe" open headers an all.. Bouts 200 cars on hand..An I got the only non painted, LOUD... hot rod...

Park'n was limited... every place I spot'd and headed for suddenly had items block'n the spot or was saved... Ya right! I waz see'n a trend.

So.. I seez a spot way in the back, Figures I'll bale it right in before the "Terd" in the 5-0 Stang right next along side comes to. Guess he heard me comming as he waz yard'n the lawn chairs etc onto the empty spot..
Screw him.. I got enough dings in the coupe so bang'n into his **** ain't no loss to me.. Now he seez I'm park'n no matter what, Scramble to get his **** out of the way!
He just looks at my car, shakes his head. packs up an relocates!! Funny he had no problems find'n another spot..
I was unload'n "The Cooler" an these 5 cars came in... made the loop look'n to park together.. Room was made for them! Granted they were very nice rides..So I goes over to check them out.. Man ,bout 8 of the biggest feel'n dudes you ever saw.. Now the cars were all black... The guys all in black T shirts NYPD.. Cars all had NYPD park'n permits as well... ( I got a dump permit sticker on the coupe).. Now these guys are look'n at me like I'm gonna breath on their hot **** rides..I walk'd off..
Come to the con-clusion I was in the wrong place..
Told wifie to pack up..we're atta here!
Tell ya what.. didn't cap the headers.. Didn't proceed with caution either on the way out... Did one mother of a smoke show, when I let off you could hear the folks just a scream'm as to what an "***hole" I was..
Laugh'd my *** off all the way home...( a 3 hr drive)

I don't know guys. I know some of the fellas in that crowd. They are good people. I'm pretty particular about who I hang out with, and these guys make the cut.

Even our own Av8Paul is with them on this trip. He's the nicest guy to walk the planet for cryin' out loud. Been friends with my dad since they were in high school.

Peter Vincent is rolling with that croud out there too.

There has too be a misunderstanding in there somewhere. I'll talk to Paul when they get back. I don't think we need to break out the br*** knuckles for this one. They are all really nice people.

Paul called one of my buddies (another HAMBer) at work yesterday from his cell phone. They were half way between Omaha and Lincoln in the middle of the afternoon. Sounds like they are making some good time. He got to drive the roadster, and he was having the time of his life.

There is a good explanation for this. With out a doubt.

Yea, I met them in 03' when I was driving the roadster p/u on the salt and they were not very "HAMB" cool........I just wanted to chat about hotrods and there was a HUGE RV with them so I figured that they were one of those with the nice living and all, and the wife said just don't worry about it. So I feel your disappointment on trying to be a nice guy and chat about old cars and spreading the gospel.

Oh yea, I like their cars. But, I think that they have more coin than I have.......Oh well, we had a hella time driving cross country in a roadster p/u.......

Besides a great place for info on traditional rodding, I like the HAMB for the open at***udes. Tingler, great response. I run into ***holes at cruises and shows all the time. The Meguire's and California duster crowd have more than their share of jerks who like to turn their noses up at in-progress rides. It's not really how much coin they have that gives them the at***ude. IMO the ***hole factor is inversely proportional to how much time they actually worked on building their ride. Least time working on the ride = biggest A-hole. I have found most folks who do most if not all of the work to generally be great to talk to. Some can be a little grumpy at first, but that's OK. I have always said that I much more enjoy ********ting with the tuner kids rather than the resto-nazi crowd and the I-spent-more-$-than-you crowd.

If I go to a cruise and strike up a conversation with one kid curious about old rods or flatheads, or if I get some 'back in the day' stories from one ol' timer; it was worth the trip. Lately there seems to be a bumper crop of rodding jerks- Don't let em ruin your day.

I can offer two sides of the coin on this one, In may on the way to Larry's jolopy showdown in Pa i came across them in a rest area, one of the cars the C'dan with a hemi was having the plugs out and all of the Bones were looking kinda puzzled, I offered help and was ignored, offered agin and was ignored, I fired up the A and burned rubber out to the PA turnpike. Months later on the way to the Road Agents my wife and i were stopped at a rest area on the M*** Pike and Ken one of the guys comes over and as nice as can be asks if we want to ride with them and meet some people at some parties, we go and have a great time and were treated like members of the family. So maybe when they have a problem they get all business like and don'twant to be bothered and if they feel like party time they are all cool and stuff. beats me, I don't hold anything against them and didn't let it bother me that they refused my help, I figure everyone is en***led to a bad day every once and awhile, I know I have my share. Go figure.

    Dude,
Life is too short and your ride is too cool to let some ***holes with at***udes screw with your day. There is NO EXCUSE for blowing off a fellow car guy like that.

Personally I've found the GOOD car guys will share ideas and help no matter what (the HAMB community!). The ****'S try to pull the ladder up behind them. They can't have anyone be "AS COOL" as they think they are.

If these clowns have "some of the most respected hot rods" well, they AND their rides just lost a lot of respect from THIS guy.

My vote is screw them AND their at***udes. The best thing you can do is IGNORE them.

You misunderstood them. They wanted you to move because you were standing in front of your car and they couldn't get a good look at it.

nah, i dont think it ever was stated that they were insulting my car, just a holier than thou kinda deal, and not stated by me.

i would imagine they were having a bad day, or i misunderstood them. im sure someone on here will talk to them, and it will be sorted out. if im wrong, i will apologize.

and yes, i realize they built those cars, and they are very nice cars too. i have said that a few times already.

i also realize that if i had the money, i could build the same damn thing. i BUILT my car. something i have not seen done with an dodge coupe. i thought outside of the box. it isnt perfect, but it isnt done. im pretty sure i could build a car that has been built many times before.

    off my soap box now.
