Hello, I'm about to trade a non topic late production pony for this 1958 4 door and I'd like some paint scheme advice from the good folks on the board. The car was a daily driver with modern power steering, 350/350, disc brakes up front and inspected until November. The only real issue with it is rust around the headlights on both sides and down into the front corner on the quarter on the passenger side. And there's a few bubbles in the front of the rear wheel wells. What I'm looking for is a few ideas on how I can hide the repairs on the car until I have the cash and money to repair the whole car. My first thought was white-orange 50's flames but I'm not sure how well that will go with a four door. I'm looking for a lower cruiser over an in your face hot rod. Maybe some sort of wrap around stripe? I don;t know any input would be great, thanks bob
Bob......Find an interesting plain Side trim spear and "Watson" it......Panel painting is a great way to both create and hide body lines....surely someone can photoshop some ideas for you. Back in the day...Flames were rarely if ever done on certain cars, and this is one of them. The '58 Chevy screams for some mild or wild panels.....Sometimes Flames are just a easy way to get some contrasting paint...just because you can, doesn't mean you should.....Good Luck!
Man ,good looking car, I think I would just sand the rust down as small area's as I could then, tape it and paint with some red colored sealer primer and drive... may blend in somewhat , and will keep you wanting to do it completely asap.... my two cents.......
I think the paint looks good. I'd just do some simple pinstriping and let it be. I'd also ditch the ralleys. Good looking car! By the way flames look bitchin on theese cars, if done right.
The paint overall is great a purple pearl mixed in the red, but I live in the north east and if I leave it as is, the rust will spread and spread. That is what's happening now. PO has about a half gallon of the paint but who knows what shape it's in. The back side of the panels are solid so I think it's confined to just under the paint. I really don;t have the means to fix it "right" right now. That rust is like a zit I'm dieing to pick at... I'm just trying to get ideas on what can be done in the spring until I can save up enough cash to paint the whole thing. thanks all for the input , bob
